Chris Waller's well bred filly Ciarlet can continue her progression through the grades at Randwick on Wednesday.
The full sister to dual Group 1 winning sprinter Zoustar was given time to mature by connections after a solid maiden campaign during the summer and on resuming hit the ground running at Gosford.
Ciarlet was a dominant winner at Gosford over 1100m where she settled outside the lead before leaving rivals in her wake for a hands and heels 7.3 length victory.
The daughter of Northern Meteor recorded a new master Timeform rating of 85+ in the process.
It is a figure which holds her in good stead second up as she contests the Ranvet Benchmark 72 Handicap (1200m) at Randwick on Wednesday.
She sits prominently amongst this field on both 12 month and weight adjusted Timeform ratings courtesy of her last start victory at Gosford.
Early in both her campaign and career, there is every chance she can build upon the effort 13 days later.
Ciarlet has drawn a shade awkwardly however at least comes in well at the weights courtesy of Rory Hutchings’ 1.5kg claim which sees the three-year-old carry zero deadweight.
Hutchings furthermore is enjoying a career best season in terms of strike rate (14%) and profit on turnover (11.3%).
The apprentice also enjoys a winning strike rate of 21% at Randwick this season with six wins from 29 rides at the course.
There are a number of lightly-raced fillies and mares in the field who can play a leading role in the sixth event at Randwick.
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Ravi is one of them.
Ravi resumes off a solid three start campaign earlier in the year where she improved with each outing which concluded with a success in a Warwick Farm 1300m event for fillies and mares.
This is a similar contest.
The daughter of Redoute’s Choice has a wide draw to contend with which negates her chances somewhat.
She is a proven weight carrier though and her trial in readiness for this was sound.
Keikosan made an encouraging stable debut at this course, class and distance a fortnight ago when attempting to make all.
While collared at the 200m, the daughter of Sebring continued to fight bravely and was only beaten just over a length.
John Thompson’s mare will no doubt have taken benefit from that outing and is yet to run out of the money in her two prior second up outings.
Wahng Wah is expected to appreciate the more spacious Randwick circuit after she produced a head turning effort first up over 1250m at Canterbury.
The daughter of Casino Prince settled last before rattling home strongly into second.
She is another who like Keikosan will take fitness from the run and furthermore, is proven second up having won at Warwick Farm last campaign.
The 2kg claim of apprentice Samantha Clenton is used to good effect and favouring Clenton is the fact Wahng Wah has shown she can be ridden both positively and quietly to good effect through her career to date.
