Preview: Prix du Conseil de Paris.
The G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris (2200m) was established in 1893 and has a rich history. Prior to the introduction of the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) in 1920, it was the feature race of the Autumn programme at Paris-Longchamp. We look at the runners for this year's renewal.
Dawn Intello
Despite struggling to make his presence felt earlier in the campaign, Dawn Intello has demonstrated improvement on his last two outings, winning the G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte (2000m) at Longchamp and placing third in the G2 Prix Dollar (1950m). His fourth in last season's G1 Prix du Jockey Club (2100m) suggests the trip will suit.
Monty
Monty may fall short at Group One level but the six-year-old has been cleverly campaigned to pick up plenty of prizes this year, including wins in the Listed Grand Prix de Bordeaux (1900m) and the Listed Grand Prix de la Région Grand Est (2100m). His fourth in the G1 Prix Ganay (2100m) despite being outsider of the seven-runner field gives him a strong chance.
Styledargent
Styledargent has been seen three times on the track in 2021 and is yet to run up to his best, placing in conditions races on his last two starts. Improvement would be required.
The Good Man
The Good Man made the transition from winning handicapper to Black Type earlier in the year and produced a career best performance when a half-length second behind Glycon in the G2 Grand Prix de Deauville (2500m). This trip could prove too sharp for him.
Mr de Pourceaugnac
Mr de Pourceaugnac steps up in class after two wins in Class Two conditions company at Saint Cloud and Deauville. This represents a stiffer test although his fourth in the G3 Prix de Reux (2500m) in August suggests he is not completely out of his depth.
Opasan
Trained in the Czech Republic, Opasan made a promising start to French career with a win in the Listed Prix Hubert Baguenault de Puchesse (2400m). He struggled in the G2 Prix Foy (2400m) subsequently, but this would be an easier task. The colt won the Czech Derby in 2020 and could be an interesting outsider.
Control Tower
Control Tower had recorded five consecutive placings including over this trip in Black Type company prior to a sixth in the G1 Prix de Royallieu (2800m). She struggles to win but a return to this journey will see an improved performance.
Seachange
Seachange has form with a few of her re-opposing rivals, having defeated Control Tower in Listed company and finished second behind Dawn Intello in the G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte (2000m). A repeat of that form would see her competing for a frame finish.
Visualisation
The sole international raider, Visualisation is attempting to step up in class after a valuable success at Listowel (IRE) over 1800m. He was second in the Golden Gate Handicap Stakes (2000m) at Royal Ascot but is yet to prove himself in Black Type company.
