Australian import Healthy Life is becoming a real specialist on the Taipa all-weather after another strong win over 1350m under regular rider Peter Ho.
A son of Northern Meteor, Healthy Life has now won four races on the surface with another three placings from only nine starts.
Saturdays win didn’t come without a fight with the veteran gallopers Geely Spirit (Luis Corrales) and Power Regimental (Ryan Curatolo) giving the even money favorite a real run for his money.
Healthy Life after being headed at the top of the straight came again to beat Geely Spirit by a neck, with Power Regimental who had hit the front turning for home, just fading the last fifty metres in third.
A former David Hayes castoff, Healthy Life (Starenzo) has run a couple of nice races on the turf but looks to really have found his niche on the sand surface.
To be fair in a couple of his turf runs he has handicapped himself with slow getaways and he was doing some good work late two back on a wet track over 1200 metres.
If the bay gelding doesn’t live up to expectations in the four year old classics on the turf connections are going to have plenty of fun with him on the all weather.
Peter Ho landed a winning double on the day with an earlier win on the Alan Ngai prepared Charming Beijing who scrambled home by a neck in the 30 to 50 rated contest over 1100 metres on the turf.
Charming Beijing made it win number four in Macau and took his earnings to close to the $1 million mark for connections.
The gelding was part of a shocking three horse pile up back in July and whilst taking no great harm from it has been desperately unlucky in a few of his runs since.
Peter Ho is slowly bridging the gap on premiership leader Luis Corrales with the score after Saturday 21 to 27 in favor of Corrales.
