Seoul Race 1: Class 4 (1000M) Special Weight A / KRW 75 Million

Picture: Korea Racing Authority

Small field of imported maidens with six of the eight racing for the first time. We will side with experience though and (7) NAVY CAPTAIN was 2nd on debut over 1200M on July 28th racing on pace throughout and stopping the clock in a good time, albeit well beaten by the winner. That should stand him in good stead here and with some natural improvement, he will take some beating. (4) CHEONDUNG LION debuted at this distance on July 13th and ran well, settling handy and running on for 4th, again a long way behind a very quick winner, but showing potential. He should have come on for the experience and be close. Of the debut makers, (1) M G BEST looks the best. He was slowly away in his trial but gathered up speed and ran on well for 4th in a decent time. If he gets away a bit better, he can put in a bold showing. (2) DREAMER WHIZ and (5) WORLD PEOPLE the others who hinted at ability in their trials.

Selections (7) Navy Captain (4) Cheondung Lion (1) M G Best (2) Dreamer Whiz

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Two standouts here. (10) ASSI JANGGUN has been knocking at the door in her latest few and while she hasn't shown much in the way of speed, she isn't alone in that regard. She can race on pace or settle midfield and grind her way on and she will be in the mix. The danger and probable betting favourite is (9) K POWERFUL. After an inauspicious debut, the Shackleford juvenile ran an improved 4th at start number two over 1200M on August 3rd, leading for much of the way around. He will aim to lead here and can go all the way. (7) IRON LEG may not be the greatest name of hoping for some speed, but he ran fairly for 5th place on debut at 1200M at the end of July and should have come on for the run. (3) NONSTOP YEOLCHA and solitary debut-maker (2) WONDERFUL ENERGY are others to consider.

Selections (10) Assi Janggun (9) K Powerful (7) Iron Leg (3) Nonstop Yeolcha

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 45 Million

Juvenile maidens with all but three racing for the first time. The limited experience is positive though and we will have those three on top. (4) SAENAE HUNTER went through two trials, improving in the second and then ran well for 3rd place on debut over this distance on August 2nd when on pace throughout. The winner of that race won by fifteen-lengths in a Korea Sprint-esque time, but it was an assured debut and with some natural improvement, he is the clear favourite. (2) KYUNGNAM DRAGON was 4th on debut over this distance on August 2nd having settled midfield and run on. He finished off well, the step up in trip can suit, and he is a big danger. (7) WIND KINGDOM rounds out the experience. He debuted in the same race as Saenae Hunter on August 2nd and ran 5th having been in midfield throughout. He should have derived benefit from the experience and can build on that here. Among the debut-makers, (8) DRAGON NINJA was the best in trials, with (12) ASTRE also showing potential.

Selections (4) Saenae Hunter (2) Kyungnam Dragon (7) Wind Kingdom (8) Dragon Ninja

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1700M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(7) HANGANG CAPTAIN stepped up to this distance for the first time on July 28th and beat three of today's rivals on his way to a solid 3rd place finish, settling midfield and running on. Coming in under the same conditions today, he will be a short price to come out on top. (1) MARUBYEOL was 4th in that race and came back out two weeks ago over 1400M when she could only manage 7th but did beat a couple of these. From the inside gate she can be on or close to the speed and is a big chance. (10) DAEMYEONGJANG has a 2nd and a 3rd on his record, and he steps up to two turns for the first time. He has got a solid finish on him so it may well suit and while one-paced, he can stay on. (8) OPUS PURPLE and (2) SPEED HERO others in the frame.

Selections (7) Hangang Captain (1) Marubyeol (10) Daemyeongjang (8) Opus Purple

(5) LIME TREE ran 5th on debut over 1000M on July 5th before improving to 2nd at start number two over 1200M on August 2nd, fifteen-lengths behind an excellent winner, but ahead of Saenae Hunter who we should have seen in race 1 and who may give us a marker. Third-up he can be peaking, and he is under a light weight. The rather unkindly named (2) FAT BOY (who is actually on the light side) comes in off a useful 4th place in a good time over 1200M on August 10th. He draws nicely and can be a danger. (1) STORMING MAGIC has the fastest time among these for the distance, recorded when 2nd two starts back and beating Fat Boy. She followed up with a 4th place on August 11th and she can be in the mix again. (8) DREAMING BOY and (9) STORM FIGHTER among plenty of others with at least placing chances.

Selections (5) Lime Tree (2) Fat Boy (1) Storming Magic (8) Dreaming Boy

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(5) CHEONJI SKY has plenty of experience at this level and comes in with his latest three reading very well indeed with two 3rd places and a 4th. That 4th was his first try at the 1400M and he likes to settle back and run on. He will be a danger late here. (7) BOLLIN got his maiden win two starts back over 1300M, before running 4th in his first try at this level at 1700M. He too likes to come from off the pace and will be finishing strongly. Just like Cheonji Sky, (10) BAZOOKA BOY has a 3rd and two 4th place finishes from three tries at this class, most recently over this distance on August 8th. He has the second fastest time among these for the 1400M and should be in the mix again. (11) EAST QUALITY and (3) HAYAN TAEYANG, the latter a possible front-runner, others in the frame.

Selections (5) Cheonji Sky (7) Bollin (10) Bazooka Boy (11) East Quality

Busan Race 3: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(6) HAVE A GOOD YEAR returned from more than six months out to run 4th over this class and distance on August 3rd, showing on pace for much of the way. He should have derived benefit from that run and while he carries his fair share of weight, he can win here. That will mean overturning the form on (4) YEONGGWANGUIFIRST, who ran 3rd in that August 3rd race, settling back and coming from off the pace. That was his first try at this class having got his maiden win two starts back over 1200M when making all. That shows he is tactically versatile, and he is a real danger. (1) BEST PRIME was slow away last time but ran on well for a close 7th. At the start before he was a desperately close 3rd in a three-way go over 1300M and from the inside gate, he should be close today. (8) PAN STAR and (2) ROAD TO PARTY the best of the rest.

Selections (6) Have A Good Year (4) Yeonggwanguifirst (1) Best Prime (8) Pan Star

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(7) VIVA CHEONGSU will be a warm favourite. She comes in having won at this class and distance on August 4th when settling handy and proving too strong. That was her maiden win, but she has never finished worse than 5th and while she comes up 3kg in the weights but Moon Se-young climbs on and she will take some beating. (5) HERO JEONSA is yet to win in nine attempts but has three runner-up finishes including at this class and distance on August 3rd, when coming from well back. Only Viva Cheongsu has completed the 1300M in a faster time and he shapes as the main danger. (8) GANGCHEOL YEOGEOL was a class and distance winner in May, and she has trained-on since then with a 3rd and a 4th from two subsequent outings at 1300M and 1400M. She has the fastest final furlong average time of any of these and can be doing her best work late again. (1) HANGGU STAR and the up in class (9) SHINE BOLT others to consider.

Selections (7) Viva Cheongsu (5) Hero Jeonsa (8) Gangcheol Yeogeol (1) Hanggu Star

(9) DAESEUNGNIJA is yet to score after eleven attempts but has nine to-five finishes and enters off a 2nd and a 3rd from her latest two at a mile and at 1400M. She has consistently run competitive times and with Munro getting on for the first time, today could be the day. (4) GOAT KING IJI obliged at the seventh time of asking when favourite at this class and distance on August 10th and leading every step of the way. He comes up 3.5kg in the weights but draws well to lead again and a repeat is possible. (11) ALLURE comes up in class having secured her maiden win at the twelfth time of asking on August 3rd. It was her first try at the mile and she is down in the weights. (2) BACKTOTHECHAMPION and (6) CHEONMA HASEO among others in the placing frame.

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(2) STORM GUY will be the hot favourite here. He has won just once from eleven starts, but he comes in off a 2nd place at the end of June, when he beat several of today's rivals, and then a 3rd place on July 27th both at this class and distance. He can run well on pace or from behind but given the draw and the competition, he can lead here and go all the way. (11) AUSTIN LEADER has also only won the once. He was well back in that race at the end of June behind Storm Guy but recovered to run 3rd over 1200M on July 28th. Only Storm Guy has run quicker for the 1400M, and the wide draw shouldn't be a problem. (1) STRENGTH can mix his form but going on his close 3rd place at class and distance two starts back, should be in the mix here with Trevor climbing aboard making up for the loss of an apprentice claim. (5) MAESTRO and (4) CHEONMA BULPAE others who can be in the mix.

Selections (2) Storm Guy (11) Austin Leader (1) Strength (5) Maestro

(6) FLYING KHAN was 4th in Busan's Classic Trial, then 4th in the Cup Mile, the first leg of the Triple Crown, and then a very solid 5th in the Korean Derby in May. He hasn't raced since then but has been in work and while he carries his fair share of weight, stepping back into more amenable company he looks hard to beat. (11) UNJU MACH enters in super form with a win and two runner-up finishes from her latest three, all at this class and distance. She has the fastest time among these for the 1400M and given her running style, the wide draw shouldn't be an issue. (8) STELL LUNA comes back in trip following a couple of fair attempts at 1800M. She has won at this distance and may provide some interest at an each-way price. (9) NICE BIG GUY and (10) DOCTOR PHAROAH among others to consider.

(5) WONDERFUL JET has won his latest two, both at this distance with front-running efforts. That brings him up rapidly to this class, but he comes down in the weights, Moon Se-young stays aboard, and he can continue on his merry way here. (3) UNICORN KINGDOM can mix his form, but he comes in off a 3rd and a 4th from his latest two, both at this class and distance. He carries a light weight and from a good draw, can be firmly in the mix. (1) YESULIYA can have a line drawn though his latest as while he only managed 7th, the margins were not big. He is a class and distance winner as recently as June and shouldn't be ruled out here. (4) BICHUICA and (11) GEUMAK JINJU others in the frame.

(2) BLAZING MAN got his maiden win at a mile in June and has since run 3rd and 2nd in two outings at this level, most recently when trying this distance for the first time on August 3rd and racing on pace throughout. He draws nicely for Munro to pick his spot, and he can go one better today. (7) WORLD POINT beat a couple of these on his way to a very close runner-up finish in a quick time at this class and distance on August 2nd, coming from well off the pace and almost getting there. (4) BREEDO WIZARD is yet to win from eleven attempts but only missed the top five on one occasion. He tackles the two turns for the first time, and it may suit. (9) DUBAI PYEONGJEONG and (8) SEOBU VISION others in contention.

(8) CHOEGO GAME is still seeking a maiden win, but he has been getting closer across six starts to date, most recently registering a 2nd place over 1300M on July 20th, when settling midfield and running on. In this company, he may be on or close to the pace and he has as good a chance as any. (1) ENDING FIRE is similarly winless, in his case after nine tries which have yielded seven top four finishes. He carries his fair share of weight here, but he should be involved at the business end. (6) VELOX BOY beat Ending Fire when winning at this class and distance on June 22nd. He then struggled over a mile but should be better back in trip today. (7) MAGLE DAY won at class and distance on June 16th and while up in the weights, shouldn't be dismissed. (11) JEDI FORCE a minor money chance.

(9) BLACK MAMBA has had an interrupted career but got back-to-back victories at a mile and 1800M at class 3 level in April and May. That led him to be sent off as the favourite when stepped up to this class for the first time on July 14th but after settling handy, failed to challenge. He has had seen weeks off since then and his talent warrants him another chance. (3) NORTHERN BID won a valuable Trophy race in April and has amassed a record of eight top three finishes from nine starts. He beat a couple of these on his way to 2nd place behind the unbeaten Choegoui Kkum on July 19th and can come up to the mile for the first time with plenty of confidence. (10) YEONGGWANGUI ACE has a 2nd and a 3rd in two tries at this class, both over the 1200M and both in fast times. It is interesting to see him stepped up to a mile here and he can be a danger. (6) GREAT CAPTAIN and (4) SOUTHERN KING others to consider.

(3) EOSEOMAREULHAE won his first three starts to get rapidly promoted to this level. He hasn't run badly at it, at least in his latest three when posting quick times. He looks ready to come up to this distance for the first time and from a good draw, Moon Se-young can get to the lead and control the race. (2) MR QUALITY was a somewhat unexpected winner over a mile last time out on July 27th when he got to the front early and just kept on going. He comes up un class here but can measure up. (5) JANGSAN POISON mixes his form but was a smart 2nd at this class over a mile last time and can be in the mix again here. (10) M J BEST has a 3rd and a 5th from two starts at this class, both times beating a couple of today's rivals and under a light weight, can be competitive again. He finished back in the pack there but returned to shallower waters to run 4th at this class and distance on July 21st in a time quicker than any of the others here have managed. He carries a light weight here and can return to winning ways. (4) TAEPYEONG HERO is up in class having won at class and distance on July 20th, settling handy and running on. He is down 2.5kg in weight and can measure up here. (8) MIGHTY TAP has a 3rd and a 2nd in two starts at this class, both at this distance and can be on pace again and in this a long way.
