Rogerson juveniles dominate early season stats

A short neck defeat for Serena Miss at Wanganui earlier in the month is all that has prevented the Debbie and Graeme Rogerson training juggernaut from producing a clean sweep of the early national juvenile event

The Rogerson’s presented Maritimo to win the first northern juvenile contest at Ruakaka a week ago and Debbie sent Jacquetta to the first southern event on Saturday confident they could make it two from three for their exciting group of youngsters.

“We are really excited by the babies we have in the stable this year as they have been showing plenty at home and at the trials so were confident of a good showing on Saturday,” she said.

“We were keen to support the club as the nominations for the race were light and it gave us the opportunity to spread the team around a bit so they aren’t just racing each other.

“While there were only two rivals in the race I thought she did a great job and was very professional throughout which will stand her in good stead in the future.

“She will stay down at Christchurch for the next month or so as there’s a nice race for her at Riccarton in a fortnight with another three weeks later so she can stay for those and then we will see if she is up to tackling the stakes race during Cup week ”

That race is the Listed Barneswood Farm Agistment Welcome Stakes which is run on the last day of Riccarton’s New Zealand Cup Week carnival.

Rogerson was also delighted with the effort of stable star Soriano to storm home late and capture third in Saturday’s Gr. 1 Windsor Park Plate at Hastings.

“She did a super job and is right on target for the Livamol Classic on the last day. She doesn’t seem to get much luck in these races but 2000 metres on the last day is her pet distance and on what she has done in the first two legs of the series I think she will be right in the mix again in two week’s time.”
