Cambridge trainer Shaune Ritchie would love to get his hands back on Abaddon.
The red carpet would be rolled out to welcome the exciting four-year-old home, but a decision has yet to be made on the Stravinsky gelding’s future.
Ritchie took Abaddon to the Queensland winter carnival earlier this year and prepared him to win twice from four starts. The horse remained in Brisbane to spell and he has been unbeaten in three appearances at Doomben this preparation from the Sunshine Coast quarters of expatriate New Zealand trainer Paul Duncan.
“Obviously, he’s a very smart galloper and we identified that very early on,” Ritchie said.“He’s going to be running in a Listed race on December 20 next and then a decision will be made as to whether he returns to New Zealand for races like the Thorndon and the Easter.
“He would get in on a fairly good weight in those handicap miles.”A half-brother to the Listed Soliloquy Stakes winner Holy Moly, Abaddon is out of the Zabeel mare Clarissa and was a $380,000 Karaka purchase in 2012 for Waikato Bloodstock.
“Bryce and Ginger (Tankard) have got shares in him with Hong Kong clients and it’s up to the boys where they think he is going to be best placed,” Ritchie said.“He’s always showed a ton of talent and I’m obviously very keen to get him back – at this point in time we’re in the loop so hopefully he comes our way again.”
Abaddon has a career record of five wins and two placings from his seven appearances.
