Darrel Lang has been overwhelmed by the advice and support he has received from the thoroughbred community on the recovery of his stable star Moochi Me.

The Cambridge trainer, who is also a part-owner of the mare, has welcomed the talented four-year-old back into the stable following a forced break after she bled when runner-up in the Gr.2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes in November.

“I have been very grateful for all the help I’ve received from lots and lots of people who have had similar problems with their horses, Lang said.

“We’ve followed all the vets’ instructions after Avondale and made sure she didn’t put heaps of weight on.

“She’ll start some light work and she has strengthened a lot and is a lot thicker through the neck and over the back.

“Through all the study I’ve done to stop the problem happening again there’s one thing that won’t be happening – I won’t be running her on firm ground, she’s very think-skinned.

“It’s always in the back of your mind that it could happen, but you have try and not worry about it.

”We’ll keep scoping her to make sure everything is all right.”

Moochi Me won consecutive lower grade events at Ellerslie and Tauranga before she tackled the Breeders’ Stakes at just her sixth start.

“She’s probably better than even I thought she was,” Lang said. ”We think she bled from the 400 abd it definitely wasn’t in the last furlong.

“As long as I can keep her right she might have a couple of runs on suitable ground and then rest her again.

“The Foxbridge Plate could be an option and I’d love to have a crack at the Group One (Makfi Challenge Stakes) at Hastings to give her a chance at that level.”
