Marsh pair ready to strike gold

3 minute read

Stephen Marsh is expecting bold showings from his two runners at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The Cambridge trainer said both Zedpak and Puntinato have thrived since their arrival in Brisbane last Sunday.

“They travelled over here perfectly and neither of them has put a foot wrong.”

Zedpak, who will step out in a class five handicap, is a progressive stayer with successes at Rotorua and Te Awamutu from his last preparation and he made it three wins in seven appearances last time out.

The four-year-old beat the in-form Illuminati and the Gr.1 Queensland Derby contender Harry when resuming over a mile at Te Rapa following a four month break.

“His first-up run was great and it will be a nice step up to 1800 metres for him on Saturday,” Marsh said.

“I think he’ll be right in it and he’ll keep getting up over more ground, there are plenty of good options for him over here.”

Zedpak will be ridden by Luke Rolls, who has also been booked for Puntinato in the class three event over 1400 metres.

The Pins mare ran third behind the unbeaten Snapshot when resuming two runs back and was then unplaced at Te Aroha.

“She was tripped up by the heavy track there and she’s travelled super,” Marsh said. “She looks great and she should be hard to beat as well.”

While Zedpak will return home after his Brisbane campaign, Puntinato will join an Australian stable to continue her career for her syndicate of Gold Coast-based owners.

Marsh has enjoyed previous success in Queensland with Thee Auld Hussie, the dam of his Gr.3 Sunline Vase winner Thee Auld Floozie, and Anca, whose stakes winning son Salamanca runs at Ellerslie on Saturday for Awapuni trainer Michael Breslin.
