The Hastings trainer is preparing the two-time elite winner for a first-up tilt at one of the country’s premier sprints at Trentham on January 16.

“She’s looks massive and she will go straight for the Telegraph,” Bary said.

Recite has an excellent record on the capital city course with her wins there including the Gr.1 Levin Classic and the Gr.2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes.

She was also successful at Trentham on debut as a juvenile, runner-up to Kawi in a three-year-old event and her only blemish came last time out when she failed to fire in the Gr.1 Windsor Park Plate.

It was an out of character effort from the mare, whose previous two runs had resulted in Group Three second placings in the Spring Sprint and the Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes.

Meanwhile, Bary’s talented juvenile Hugo The Boss will further his Listed Karaka Million preparation at Awapuni on Saturday.

He has taken no harm from the unfortunate events at Trentham where he tailed the field home in the Gr.2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes. He was subsequently declared a late scratching after confirmation his gate had flicked back and struck him in the head.

“He had a quiet jump-out last Friday and he’s showing no ill effects at all,” Bary said. “It was unfortunate, but something you can’t do anything about.”

Hugo The Boss had previously been a runaway debut winner at Tauherenikau.
