Queensland owner Dick Karreman is seeking a fourth Telegraph win at Trentham this weekend.

Karreman, who owns The Oaks Stud at Cambridge, will be represented by his dual Group One winner Recite.

Karreman has had some spectacular results as an owner and Trentham must rank among his favourite tracks.

In addition to winning the Gr.1 Telegraph with Keeninsky, Darci Brahma and Seachange, Karreman had a New Zealand Oaks quinella with Artistic and Zurella, who were separated by just a nose in 2012.

He also quinellaed the Telegraph when Darci Brahma beat Seachange in 2007, with Seachange returning to win the race the following year.

Recite, a daughter of Darci Brahma, is a class act and well suited by the set weight conditions for the JR & N Berkett Telegraph, where she will carry just 53kg and get 6kg from topweight Sacred Star,

The John Bary-trained mare has not raced since trailing the field home in the Gr.1 Windsor Park Plate, when in season, in late October.

“Her fresh-up record is very good and she’s probably the best-weighted horse in the race,” The Oaks Stud manager Rick Williams said.

“The draw is a bit awkward, but she’s hardly ever carried 53kg in her life.

“She had 59kg when she set a track record for 1200m at Matamata fresh-up in February.

“She has had some issues with her joints, but she’s very well. Sacred Star is the horse to beat but if she [Recite] brings her A game, she should be in the first three,” Williams said.

Premiership leader Lisa Allpress will be having her first race ride on Recite, but won two stakes races and was Group One-placed on Recite’s dam, Chant, who was also raced by The Oaks Stud.

“We have had a good run with Lisa,” Williams said.
