Volpe Veloce showed a mile held no fears for her when the flying filly added the Gr.3 Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni to her perfect record.
The only possible question mark over the three-year-old before Saturday’s Lawnmaster-sponsored feature could have been the trip, but she answered positively with a strong closing 150 metres to stretch her winning sequence to five.
“I was a little bit worried half-way up the straight, she looked a bit flat-footed before she really wound up,” trainer Graham Richardson said.“That might be a good sign that she could possibly get to a mile and a half.”
Volpe Veloce was given the perfect run one out and one back by Johnathan Parkes and once she hit top gear in the run home she drew out to win by a length and a half from Rip Into Ghia and Storytime.Richardson said he would monitor the filly in the coming days before deciding on her next start.
“I’m undecided at the moment. There’s the Eight Carat at Ellerslie or we could go to Trentham for the Levin Classic, it will be one of those two races.”Volpe Veloce completed a hat-trick at Awapuni for Richardson, who had earlier produced Wildflower (Speights Ale House Handicap) and Pure Lorde (Dunstan Feeds Qualifier) to win while at Te Rapa their stablemate Los Vargas claimed the Lowe Schollum & Jones Premier.
Los Vargas has now won six races and she is in line for a black type start at her next appearance.“I have to talk to the owners, but she’ll go to Ellerslie for the Newmarket or the Railway,” Richardson said.
