A decision will be made on the immediate future of the quality mare Perfect Fit in the coming days.

The Ken and Bev Kelso-trained five-year-old didn’t pull up 100 per cent after she finished out of the money in the Gr.1 NRM Sprint at Te Rapa.

“She had mucus in her trachea post-race,” said Haunui Farm’s Mark Chitty, who bred and co-owns the Elusive City mare.

“Even though she sat three wide it helped to explain the below par effort, she was eased out of the race the last bit.

“She’s being treated and we’ll see what transpires in the next week and then see if we can get her back to the races competitively.

“We would like to have a crack the Westbury Classic again, but we have to make sure that she is 100 per cent before looking at another start.”

Perfect Fit won the Group Two feature at Ellerslie last season before she added the Gr.1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes title to her record.

Prior to the NRM Sprint, she had been in good touch with a runner-up finish in the Gr.1 Railway Stakes before she got home well for third, after jumping awkwardly, in the Gr.1 Telegraph.

Perfect Fit is out of the former champion weight-for-age performer and three-time Group One winner Fayreform, whose last daughter is Showthemoff, a three-year-old filly by Haunui stallion Showcasing.

“She’s with Stephen Marsh and she’s had a couple of trials,” Chitty said.
