Champion jockey Joao Moreira was left stranded on 199 wins for the 2012 season after riding a double on Friday night.

After missing last weekends meeting when riding in South Africa in an International Jockeys Challenge, Moreira commenced Friday’s meeting on 197 winners.
After riding three minor placings earlier in the evening, Moreira got on the scoreboard when Californian Girl took out the $55,000 Class 4 Stakes over 1100m on the Polytrack.
He then followed up in the following race, the sixth on the 10-event card, with pick-up ride Jumbo Can in the $35,000 Class 5 Stakes over 1400m.
Two more second placings followed in the final two races when Chun Doong finished runner-up to Can’t Touch Me in the $35,000 Class 5 Stakes over 1400m before Big Fortune finished second behind Caiyaya (prepared by Leticia Dragon and giving her a double for night) in the $55,00 Class 4 Stakes over 1100m on the Polytrack.
Moreira has 10 rides on Sunday’s 11-event card to try and crack the magical 200 winner mark.
