Trainer Brian Dean saved the best for last on Friday night by rounding out the nine-race Kranji programme with a race-to-race double in the last two events with Petrenui and Meaisin.

On both counts, the two gallopers certainly earned their oats with two all-heart wins secured in their respective contests.

Petrenui ($27), who was having his third start for one win and one second for Dean following a promising career in Perth that resulted in three wins from four runs, again franked that consistent form with a gutsy all-the-way win in the $75,000 Class 3 race over 1100m on Polytrack.

Ridden by Corey Brown, his last-start winning partner in a 1000m race on May 31 when he scraped home by a short head after being given no rest in the lead, the Bletchley Park three-year-old was this time able to be ridden on a piece of a cotton.

Turning for home, Petrenui powered home and was well clear at the 200m before $11 favourite California Eagle (Joao Moreira) cut him back, but only to settle for second three parts of a length away. One Smart Cat (Zuriman Zulkifli) loomed as a threat on the outside, but died on his run to finish third another neck away. The winning time was 1min 4.84secs.

Dean’s second winner Meaisin ($53) in the lucky last, the $55,000 Class 4 Division 1 race over 1400m was registered in a different style as the New Zealand-bred Zabeel five-year-old, whom Dean also owns, had to fashion a bold challenge after being held up for a run upon straightening.

But leading apprentice jockey A’Isisuhairi Kasim showed a patience of Job which was rewarded manifold when the break came through halfway up the straight, allowing his mount to head home for his second Kranji win from 13 starts, not without having to repel the double-barrelled attack from Funca (Barend Vorster) and To Be Remembered on whom leading jockey Joao Moreira was desperately trying not to go home empty-handed, but to no avail.

Dean said there was not much of Petrenui, but he compensates for his lack of build with a big heart.

“That was his third run for me and he was obviously a lot fitter tonight. It was also a great ride by Corey,” said the always jovial trainer, who had wife Wendy by his side to celebrate the big night’s double success.

"He was able to get away with some fairly cheap sectionals this time, and they went all the way.

“He’s only a little horse. So I doubt he will be fronting up too quickly.”

Brown, who was at a riding double as well, having earlier scored aboard the Steven Burridge-trained Thrust in the $35,000 Class 5 race over 1200m on turf, said Petrenui benefitted from the easy time he enjoyed at the head of affairs.

“He’s a really nice little horse. Last time out, they attacked me solid, but he was able to get his own way in front tonight,” said the Australian jockey who is all set to ride at Kranji for a longer period of time after initially being licensed for only two months.

“I always had the race in control and in the straight, he just quickened up well. They were closing in, but he was just too good tonight.”

Previously trained by Craig Wright in Perth, Petrenui won three races in a row in city company at Belmont under leading West Australian jockey Paul Harvey before moving to Singapore for the Rise Again Stable earlier this year.

Meaisin handed A'Isisuhairi a riding double to extend his lead in the Singapore apprentice jockey's premiership as he had earlier scored aboard Super Star for trainer Leslie Khoo in the $35,000 Class 5 race (1700m) for claiming riders. A'Isisuhairi currently has 33 wins on the log, 17 wins clear of reigning champion Tengku Rehaizat, who had a blank day from a book of three rides on Friday.
