Dubai A Key Guide To Kranji Features

Dubai’s World Cup meeting is set to have a strong bearing on Singapore’s International Meeting in May with over a dozen dual-nominations.

They include five likely runners in the Cup itself, a race that has been a good guide to the Singapore International Cup in recent years with three winners coming through the world’s richest race.

Gloria De Campeao ran second in the 2009 World Cup before his International Cup success at Kranji.

He returned having won the 2010 World Cup but the runner-up Lizard’s Desire was able to turn the tables in Singapore.

Gitano Hernando finished sixth in the World Cup before triumph at Kranji in 2011.

Likely 2014 World Cup runners Red Cadeaux, Side Glance and The Fugue are all nominated for Singapore, alongside Hong Kong-based stars Akeed Mofeed and Military Attack, no stranger to Kranji having won the International Cup last season.

The Fugue would be a most interesting runner if she makes the trip east for John Gosden with the multiple Group One-winner currently the second elect for the World Cup after narrow defeats at both the Breeders Cup and Hong Kong International Meetings in 2013.

Her Breeders Cup conqueror Magician is also nominated with his season likely to kick off at the Meydan in the Sheema Classic.

The Sheema Classic hasn’t thrown up a Singapore winner since Endless Hall came off a fourth placed run in Dubai to topple the great globetrotter Jim And Tonic at Kranji, though 2012 Singapore International Cup winner Chinchon had run in the Sheema Classic the year prior.

Of the five likely Dubai Duty Free runners that hold an entry in Singapore the unbeaten South African Vercingetorix is the one that catches the eye.

The lone horse to do the Duty Free-Singapore Cup double was fellow South African Jay Peg.

Another South African, River Jetez, ran second in both races in 2011.

River Jetez was trained Mike De Kock who also saddled Lizard’s Desire to his 2010 success.

Vercingetorix would be out to give him another Singapore International Cup and he looks a fairly likely candidate.
