Lim’s Ripple looks to be another smart sort in the making for the Lim’s Stable after he scored second-up in the $75,000 Restricted Maiden race over 1400m on Friday night, but trainer Steven Burridge still believes he needs more time to come right.

The O’Reilly three-year-old made late ground to run seventh on debut a month ago, incidentally getting his jockey Glen Boss queried over the ride. Greenness was the main reason invoked for the erratic run, especially around the bend.

Most would think Lim's Ripple was a fast learner from the way he won on Friday night. Coming off a handy spot, the $11 favourite attacked the line with great determination to defeat $537 roughie Classic (Olivier Placais) by three-quarter length

with race-leader and favourite Redoubt (Shafiq Rizuan) weakening into third place another head away.

But Burridge was adamant about where he was going after the win, not the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge, but the paddock.

“I’ll give him a spell, he’s still too immature,” said the Australian handler.

“He’s a big raw-boned and late-maturing horse, but he’s improved by leaps and bounds after his first run. Bossy gave him a great ride, too.”

Boss concurred with Burridge that Lim’s Ripple was still work in progress and couldn’t wait to see him back in work after his break.

“He’s very raw, and it was the same at his first run. He has no idea what he’s doing,” said the Australian jockey.

“Luckily he drew one tonight and that helped. The 1200m was too short for him and I’m glad it was a seven furlong race on the Long Course tonight.

“The leader had a soft lead in front, but my bloke hit the line really good.”

Placais was also really pleased with Classic’s (x Showcasing) unexpected second place, even giving the impression he could cause a major boilover.

“He ran a very nice race. I saw his first two runs before a break and he ran ordinary,” said the French jockey.

“He ran on very well tonight, and for a second, I thought we had a chance but Glen’s horse was too good. I really like Classic and I hope I can ride him again.”
