Trainer Brett Crawford's Investec Cape Derby winner Jackson has made an early start to his bid to win the Vodacom Durban July.

Crawford, beaten only a with Angus in the July 10 years ago, said: “I sent him to Summerveld and he appears to have travelled well.

“Depending on how things go I may run him in a 1100m race next month. He couldn't win it but it would be instead of a gallop.

"Then he is definitely going to run in the KRA Guineas on May 5 followed by the Daily News and the July.”

Divine Jet, rated by some observers the best three-year-old in the country before his Cape Guineas disappointment, could also be in the KRA Guineas line-up.

Trainer Dean Kannemeyer said: “He goes to Durban and if he is drawn in the first six in the Guineas he will probably run. Otherwise he could start in the Drill Hall.”

Joey Ramsden flew to Johannesburg to monitor Bravura's preparation for the HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes.

The J&B Met runner-up has settled in well under the temporary care of Mike de Kock.

However Justin Snaith's Met fourth Run For It is lame and will miss the Horse Chestnut.

Snaith said: “He injured himself on the polytrack at Randjesfontein and is lame on his near fore. It's too soon to say exactly what the problem is and I am waiting to get him back to Cape Town to find out.”

Val De Ra, the Equus Champion Sprinter who notched up her third G1 win in the Cape Flying Championship at Kenilworth on January 21, is back in full training atDennis Drier's Summerveld yard.

Drier said if all went according to plan the five-year-old mare would defend her G1 Computaform Sprint crown at Turffontein on April 28.

He said that would be her swansong as plans to race her abroad had been scrapped although she might still be flown overseas for stud purposes.
