UK: French Derby target for Intello

3 minute read

Intello will be aimed at the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly after his unlucky run in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) on Sunday

The Andre Fabre-trained colt, who won the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket on his previous outing, was beaten a neck and a head in the Classic, despite being drawn in stall 17 and meeting trouble in running.

The step up to 10 furlongs looks sure to suit in the Jockey Club and Fabre has not ruled out trying Intello over a mile and a half later in the season.

"He came back with a little problem but it's nothing too serious," said Fabre.

"The logical race for him is the Jockey Club and that is where he'll go next.

""There is lots of speed on his dam side so whether he would stay 12 furlongs in future I'm not sure. But then he's by Galileo and his progeny tend to stay, even when they are bred to the fast mares, so it will be interesting if we need to try."

Fabre did leave with a big winner when Tableaux, in the colours of Coolmore's Derrick Smith, landed the Prix Hocquart in determined fashion.

"Tableaux is a real trier, he's got a big heart," said Fabre.

"I think he'll be saved now for the Grand Prix de Paris, a mile and a half will suit him well."
