Royal Ascot hero Commissioned could bid to get his season back on track in next month's Doncaster Cup.

Formerly owned by Godolphin before enjoying a successful stint over hurdles with John Ferguson, the six-year-old made a winning start for Irish trainer Gordon Elliott and owner Nick Bradley in the final race of Royal Ascot, the Queen Alexandra Stakes.

With connections eyeing an ambitious tilt at the Melbourne Cup, Commissioned stepped up in class for last month's Goodwood Cup, but was slowly into stride and soon became detached before eventually being pulled up by Adam Kirby.

The son of Authorized was found to have suffered a minor injury, but is reported to be back on-song ahead of a likely appearance on Town Moor.

Bradley said: "We gave him a week in the field after Goodwood and he seems fine.

"I was thinking we might have another Mad Moose or Junior on our hands at the time, but Gordon assures me there's nothing wrong with his temperament and it was just unfortunate he struck into himself.

"The Ascot form has been franked with Clondaw Warrior (third in Queen Alexandra Stakes) winning at Galway and finishing second in the American St Leger on Saturday night, so I think we've still got a racehorse on our hands.

"I did speak to Gordon about maybe entering him for York this week, but he felt it wouldn't be fair on the horse.

"I think we'll probably aim him at the Doncaster Cup now. Whether there's something for him before then, I'm not sure, but I think he'll be ready to run in two or three weeks.

"Wherever he goes he needs fast ground."
