Opening-day Doncaster win has been well advertised

Doncaster winner Bangkok appears unlikely to be supplemented for the Qipco 2000 Guineas and will instead head to Sandown on Friday for the bet365 Classic Trial.

The Andrew Balding-trained son of Australia, who holds an entry in the Investec Derby, will remain at a mile and a quarter for the Group Three prize, having appeared to appreciate the step up to that trip with an impressive victory on his return to action last month.

The form of that win on Town Moor was given a significant boost at Windsor on Monday, after the runner-up Telecaster bolted up by nine lengths in a novice event.

Balding said: “The likelihood is that Bangkok will be running at Sandown on Friday in the Classic Trial.

“I think the owners (King Power Racing) have a genuine 2000 Guineas contender in Shine So Bright who won the Free Handicap at Newmarket this week.

“We do think a lot of this horse, but we think a mile and a quarter is his trip for the time being.

“This is a trial for Epsom, so we will see how he goes. He is a lovely horse to have in the yard.

“I think coming out of Doncaster we knew the first two were pretty good, as they pulled nine lengths clear of the third.”

Bangkok is one of 15 entries for the Sandown feature, among them the Martyn Meade-trained Leicester winner Technician, John Gosden’s once-raced Alfaatik and Tom Dascombe’s Arthur Kitt, who was last seen finishing a highly-creditable fourth to Line Of Duty in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
