No risk in following Queens Gamble

3 minute read

Queens Gamble can land the odds in style in the Alan Swinbank Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Market Rasen to set up a tilt at the Champion Bumper.

Oliver Sherwood's talented mare is the shortest-priced British-trained runner for the Cheltenham Festival Grade One after a pair of bloodless victories at Prestbury Park – and she can now add a second Listed prize to her CV before returning to Gloucestershire in the spring.

The form of her eight-length Cheltenham victory in November got a timely boost when runner-up Bonttay bolted up at Exeter recently and although there are some useful prospects in opposition, none have the upwardly mobile profile of this high-class daughter of Getaway who has simply oozed quality on the racecourse so far.

Jaytee is the pick in the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Handicap Chase.

He returned with a fourth over hurdles at Uttoxeter in December before switching back to fences late last month, where he caught the eye in finishing second, beaten just under two lengths.

Jaytee's current mark of 113 looks very competitive.

Peace Of Rome can get off the mark for Nicky Henderson in the Follow @starsports_bet EBF Novices' Hurdle.

Out of luck in three bumper runs, the five-year-old posted a decent effort when stepped up to an extended two and a half miles for his hurdles bow, coming home third behind Churchills Boy at Plumpton before Christmas.

Beaten six and a half lengths, the form has a pleasing look with the winner having prevailed again since, while the second was narrowly edged out on his most recent spin.

Henderson can also get on the Taunton scoresheet via Bold Reaction in the Rowcliffes Novices' Hurdle.

He has disappointed a bit in two hurdles starts to date, coming home third at Sandown in November before trailing home fifth at this track after setting out to make all the following month.

Bold Reaction has since undergone wind surgery and that combined with a longer trip might see him in a better light.

Half Dozen was a comfortable winner at Hereford last week and will take plenty of beating turned out under a 7lb penalty in the Cornish Rock Gin Handicap Hurdle, while going a touch further may be just what the consistent Prime Pretender needs to get his head in front in the Stables Business Park Novices' Handicap Chase.

Blazeon Five saw her winning run come to an end when second at Kempton last month, but she lost little in defeat and it would be no surprise to see her regain the winning thread off just 1lb higher in the Huge Daily Boosts Only At BetUK Handicap at Wolverhampton.

Also at Dunstall Park, Dinoo can make a return to the winner's enclosure in the concluding BetUK Over 40,000 Live Streamed Races Handicap.

Roger Varian's course winner was sent off favourite when trying a mile and a half for the first time at Kempton and his keeping-on fifth-place finish can be marked up considering he suffered interference as the race began to develop.

Before that he thrived over distance of around 10 furlongs, but the son of Starspangledbanner is worth persevering with over this trip and is given the utmost respect.
