Multiple Group 1 winner Hurricane Lane overcame stormy conditions at Newmarket on Friday to win the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes. The four-year-old had been very disappointing on seasonal reappearance in the Group 3 John Porter Stakes at Newbury when last of seven.

Outbox set the pace with the Godolphin pair, Global Storm and Hurricane Lane, settled into second and third. Hurricane Lane moved to the front with two and a half furlongs to go, leaving the favourite West Wind Blows and Global Storm struggling for a response. He forged clear to win easily by six lengths ahead of West Wind Blows and Global Storm. The second and third placings were reversed following after a steward's enquiry.

In a post race interview with ITV Racing, jockey James Doyle said, "He was a top class horse [as a three-year-old] and he needed the race at Newbury. Charlie and the whole team brought him back here and showed what he could today. Everything was perfect for him and it was just nice to get him back winning.

He ran so well in the Arc [2021], I'd be so surprised if Charlie didn't have an eye on the Arc for him. Look, it's a long way away and there's a lot of water to be going under the bridge before then but what he will do in the immediate future, I'm not quite sure".
