The Kerry Lee-trained Black Poppy was made to battle hard to take out the Swinton Handicap Hurdle this afternoon but the seven-year-old wasn't to be denied.

Adam Wedge had to be in the full drive to lift his mount home, but connections of Teddy Blue will likely be ruing a last flight error. Black Poppy travelled kindly throughout much of the race and knuckled down well to beat Teddy Blue, who made a bad blunder at the last, by a hard-fought one-and-a-quarter-lengths. Takeit Easy (33/1) looked to be in with every chance but finished a further two-and-a-half-lengths back in third. The well-backed Brentford Hope (11/4) was back in sixth.

Connections of Irish-raider Nibiru will be disappointed as he refused to race. William Hill announced they would refund all bets on the runner.
