Shamida continued the excellent record of three-year-olds in the Group 3 Irish St Leger Trial Stakes on Sunday, when recording a comfortable half-length success under Chris Hayes.

Originally entered to run at Cork on Friday night, Shamida was re-routed to the Curragh for the 1m6f contest and was the sole three-year-old in the four-runner field. With the advantage of a hefty weight allowance, Shamina sat behind the pacesetter Okita Soushi and took up the lead with over a furlong to run. She kept on well to finish half-a-length ahead of Dawn Rising with Okita Soushi back in third.

"She was in Cork on Friday night, but we withdrew her because of the ground. She's a good-actioned filly and would never want the ground too soft," said trainer Dermot Weld.

"I'd say she will have one more run this year and I'd say it will be the Prix Royallieu, it's the Group One mile-and-six for fillies and mares. It's kind of written for her.

"This is a very game, tough three-year-old. She's an immature filly and I think she will improve.

"Two of the horses there won at Royal Ascot and it was a very good trial.

"She's a stayer with speed."

Three-year-olds have won the Group 1 Prix Royallieu six times in the last eight renewals, and the race has been dominated by UK and Irish raiders in recent years (5-5). The 1m6f contest will take place over 'Arc' weekend, on Saturday 30 September.
