Sam King’s Horse Racing Tips Today

3 minute read

Day 3 at York throws up some high-class action and Sam King returns with three selections.

Today's horse racing tips.
Today's horse racing tips.

Understandably Highfield Princess heads the betting in her bid to make it back-to-back Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes at 3.35.

She's a horse I'm a massive fan of but I couldn't be getting involved at her current price and there looks to be a nice each-way bet in the race with firms paying extra places.

Twilight Calls really caught the eye when fourth behind Bradsell and Highfield Princess in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and I'm surprised to see him as big as he is in the market. He might not have won at Ascot with a clear run but certainly would have been a few spots better and this race should really be run to suit.

The ground is vital for Henry Candy's runner with Twilight Calls being a horse that would be at home on something resembling a motorway. The quicker the better for him and it's certainly only going to get faster with a breeze and dry forecast at York. There should be plenty of pace on up front for this hold-up performer and I can see him running a huge race at a juicy price.

Selection: Twilight Calls - General 16/1

Once again there are extra places on offer in the Assured Data Protection EBF Fillies' Handicap (Heritage Handicap) at 4.10. Market support for Amanzoe makes her of strong interest but at the current prices, Sirona has to be the each-way play.

Charlie Johnston's filly was a Listed winner in Germany at two and remains lightly raced after just seven career outings. She took a step back in the right direction when runner-up over a mile at Newmarket last month and shaped as though she'd appreciate going back up in distance.

The booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye and I expect him to be positive on this filly from a good draw in stall five.

Selection: Sirona - General 9/1

I'm a big of the Convivial Maiden (4.45) and Kings Valley went straight into my notebook after his debut effort.

The Ollie Sangster-trained colt shaped with bundles of promise in a typically hot Sandown novice event and the winner has gone on to score in commanding style at Listed level.

He travelled best of all that day before tiring late on and I'd expect him to strip much fitter this time around. A lovely galloping track like York should play right into his hands and I'm surprised this son of Territories isn't favourite.

Selection: Kings Valley - General 7/2
