Following a setback, Ollie Sangster’s Shuwari has been forced to bypass the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
The Ollie Sangster -trained daughter of New Bay announced herself as one of Britain's leading 1000 Guineas contenders when finishing half a length behind the current 7/2 market leader Ylang Ylang in the Group1 bet365 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket in October.
Connections would have been eagerly awaiting their rematch with Aidan O'Brien's contender back on the Rowley Mile in May but unfortunately, a small setback has ruled Shuwari out of the opening fillies' Classic.
"She's had a setback and there will be no Guineas," said Sangster, who enjoyed a fruitful first season in the training ranks last year.
"She was training great and had wintered well. She had grown and strengthened up and her work had been very good this spring. She was in very good shape, and we were looking forward to it (the Guineas).
