The abandonment of Leicester slims the pickings slightly on Monday, but there still looks to be two decent bets at Hamilton and Wolverhampton.

Hamilton 3.33 – Papagei

I'm keen to stick with the progressive Papagei up at Hamilton, who along with a couple of his rivals, makes the long journey to Scotland from Newmarket for trainer James Ferguson.

The hat-trick-seeking three-year-old relished the step up to a mile and a half for the first time when an emphatic winner at Leicester in August, before doing well to overcome a muddling tempo at Haydock earlier this month. The prospect of good to soft ground once more will pose no problems, while his main market rival Spectacular Style still has question marks over the surface.

A further 4lb rise in the weights for his recent Haydock success looks fairly lenient and with Hamilton's stiff finish to suit, James Ferguson's gelded son of Masar can complete the three-timer.

Odds 3/1

Wolverhampton 5.30 – Yehudi

We head to Wolverhampton this evening for our second selection, where Yehudi catches my eye in the seven-furlong nursery.

The Mark Loughnane team has been in good form of late, with a 23% strike rate over the last fourteen days. The booking of his son Billy is certainly not a negative, and I'd be disappointed if this juvenile cannot start making an impact in nurseries from an opening mark in the mid-60s.

Whilst form figures of 976 probably don't make much appeal, Yehudi has shaped with plenty of ability in three fairly competitive qualifying events thus far. He showed up well for a long way on his first outing over seven furlongs when sixth at Haydock last month, staying on nicely under hands and heels riding in the closing stages.

The son of Bated Breath is bred to handle this artificial surface and from a kind draw in stall three, I expect Billy Loughnane to be positive on him. The application of a first-time tongue-tie could also bring about further improvement on his all-weather debut and while general odds of 7/2 are probably no more than fair, I'd be disappointed if he wasn't bang there at the business end on his nursery bow.

Odds 7/2
