Unfortunately, nothing screams out at big prices so another 40/1 winner will not be on the cards. However, there do look to be two solid selections at Newcastle tonight.

Titainium – Newcastle 6.00

The Grant Tuer-trained Titainium looks to have really got his act together in recent outings, especially now that he has stepped up to a mile and a quarter. There's no doubt he has his quirks, but he left the impression there was plenty more in the tank when producing a career-best performance to land the spoils at Redcar seventeen days ago.

He hung late in the closing stages so jockey Ollie Stammers will have to have his wits about him, but there's no doubt he was well on top at the line and a 4lb rise may prove lenient.

With previous course-winning form in the book, the return to this venue holds no fears and I'm fully expecting him to follow-up en-route to tackling better company in the not-so-distant future.

Odds – 15/8

Asimov – Newcastle 6.30

Later on the card, Asimov could prove the answer to the six-furlong handicap at 6.30. James Fanshawe has his team in fine order at the moment, with an impressive 26% (7-27) over the last fourteen days.

The drop back to Class 5 company looks like a real positive for Asimov, who was hardly disgraced when sixth of nine at Newmarket (July) last month. He only looked to be doing enough out in front when shedding his maiden tag at Doncaster in June, leaving the impression that applying some cheekpieces could bring out plenty of improvement.

James Fanshawe has opted to stick them on here and he can make the long journey north worthwhile for the Newmarket-based handler.

Odds – 100/30
