Irish Champions Festival Day 2

3 minute read

St Leger day at the Curragh.

Sunday's festivities start with the Blandford Stakes G2 for f&m over 2000m with a field of 10.  Purple Lily heads the market on 3/1 for Twomey-Lee and is fancied over American Sonja 5/1 for Joseph O'Brien and McMonagle and Rogue Millenium (with connections chopsing this race over one at Leopardstown yesterday) on 13/2 for Joseph and William Buick.  You could think about an e/w on Wingspan 8/1 (Aidan-Moore).

The Moyglare Stud is g1 for 2yo fillies over 1400 but only 5 runners maybe because of Bedtime Story  on 5/6 going for her 5th win.  Ollie Sangster's Simmering (by Too Darn Hot and out of a Fastnet Rock mare) has shown promise and is on 11/2 with McMonagle riding.

The Flying Five G1 is over 1000m and has 18 runners.  Bradsell looks to be in fine form and is on 7/4 for Watson-Hollie Doyle, with Believing 11/4 for Boughey-Ryan Moore and we also like Buccanero Fuerte 10/1 for Murray-Egan.

The Vincent O'Brien National Stakes G1 for 2yo colts and the irritating "no geldings" is over 1400m with 8 runners.  Henri Matisse, a Wooton Bassett, is on evens for O'Brien-Moore with the most likely challenger being Godolphin's Aomori City, an Oasis Dream colt on 4/1 for Appleby-Buick.  Cowardofthecounty keeps getting into the finish and is on 15/2 for Joseph-McDonough – he's by Kodi Bear.

The Irish St Leger isn't restricted to 3yos and is over 2800m.  It's G1 and has a field of 8 headed by Kyprios on 8/11 for O'Brien-Moore.  Giavelotto is next in the market on 11/4 for M Botti and O Murphy and Vauban is on 6/1 as he has another prep race for the Melbourne Cup.  He's on 6/1 and Mullins has booked William Buick for the ride.
