Peruvian star (American bred) Al Qasr has avenged his defeat in the LatinoAmericana with a stunning win in the GP 25 de Mayo.
In that race his jockey Carlos Trujillo lost a stirrup in the straight and they finished 5th, but this time Trujillo made no mistakes and got the victory over local favourite Bogeyman, with the other Peruvian runner, the mare Almuden, coming third. Margins were 2 lengths and 2 lengths.
Trujillo has been criticised for excessive use of the whip in the closing stages, but there is nothing in the local rules concerning whip use so Trujillo can be exonerated from this charge as he got the desired result.
This win means that Al Qasr scores an automatic entry into the Breeders' Cup Turf in November.
