The weather looked fantastic and everyone looked happy – even the horses!
On Saturday Simmering won by 3 lengths from our pick Fraise des Bois in the Prix Calvados but both are good fillies and worth watching. The Prix de Pomone saw Aventure just squeak in by a short neck to Trevenaunce who went off at a very generous 20/1.
Sunday was a fantastic day firstly with Double Major winning the 3000m Prix Kergolay. He was odds-on and is a very good horse. Second was Goya Senora with German raider Alessio third but then there were only 5 runners.
American Sonja led for most of the way in the Jean Romanet G1 but Mqse de Sevigne was not to be denied and she took over the lead and remained stubbornly there to claim the victory. Maxux 11/1 was third. Mqse de Sevigne will now go to the Arc.
And then the happiest of happies when Whistlejacket won the G1 Prix Morny, just 8 days after running in Ireland and finishing second. This time he drew the rail and Ryan Moore just kept him going in a straight line and while challenged by Rashabar had enough to stretch out further and win by ¾ length and get his G1! Looks like he'll go to the Middle Park and then Breeders. Our spies on the ground said he was looking very relaxed and happy pre-race even with just 8 days between big runs!
The Prix Alec Head went to Friendly Soul who started evens favourite for Gosdens-Shoemark who won by a length to Birthe with Candela third. Kitty Rose ran a reasonable race to finish fifth before her trip to her new home.
If anyone is curious about the headline – Eau is French for water pronounced "Oh" and Deauville means town by the water.
