NEW SOUTH WALES

SR 1: Interesting trial results for some key runners. (7) EMILA had the better of the top weight (1) STARTREUSSE in an 900m heat at Rosehill on 30 August but expect the latter to be a different proposition under race conditions. At the same session the first starter (9) TAVARNELLE had her second trial and first since April when she won her 800m heat in much faster time, indicating that she could be very competitive in this field on debut.

SR 3-7 KING LIONHEART (Gai Waterhouse): Gai has him ready for 1500m first-up. He was trialling for the second time when he held ground well in heavy going in a 1200m heat at Randwick on 19 August.

SR 4: A host of notable trials among the good mares resuming in this quality event. (1) GRACEFUL ANNA and (2) SOLAR CHARGED were not out to break records when held down for the placings behind Obsequious in a sharp 800m heat at Warwick Farm on 26 August but they were overshadowed by the much faster heat win on the same day by the short course flier (5) PLATINUM SKYE. And just as good as any on the same day was the hard held second by (7) CELTS against the classy Decision Time in another 800m heat. At Randwick on 18 August (8) FLYING SUCCESS looked ready to perform well first-up when she led out and was under a big hold to win her 800m heat in heavy going but runner-up (6) OFCOURSEICAN also impressed with the way she found the line with plenty in hand.

SR 6: The trial to note is the Gosford 800m heat win by the exciting prospect (9) TORIO'S QUEST on 17 August backed up by a very sharp exhibition gallop at the Wyong Cup meeting last Friday. He's ready but the key will be his need for a firm surface. (10) FAST CLIP will also strip not far off his peak after two strong trials at Randwick in the last four weeks. The Chris Waller pair (4) FORETELLER and (8) PRESSDAY have both been back to the trials for easy conditioning hit outs since they last raced a month ago.

SR 7-1 MOURAYAN (Robert Hickmott): Interesting training regime for the top weight as he has been back to his Victorian base since his last start at Rosehill two weeks ago and was sent around in 1550m trial at Cranbourne on Monday where he finished 5.5 lengths second to his classy stablemate Linton. He's a gross type who can only benefit from plenty of work.

SR 8: (6) SOMEPIN ANYPIN can be explosive under the right conditions and he looks well primed for a big first-up showing off his fast Warwick Farm trial win over 800m on 26 August. The stayer (8) MERENSKY REEF had a good hit out to win a 1200m heat at Randwick on 19 August.

NSW TRIALLERS RACING INTERSTATE:

MR 6-1 HAPPY ZERO (Hawkes Partnership): High class former Hong Kong horse who hasn't run since taking on Starspangledbanner in the Golden Jubilee over a year ago. He is now in Sydney and won his second trial at Rosehill on 15 August. Big watch.

VICTORIA

Keep good note of some of the Hickmott runners who had clean out trials during the week at Cranbourne. MR 3-4 TANBY, MR 5-13 AKZAR, MR 7-3 LINTON all did the business and you can expect them to be improved off recent runs.

MR 7-10 DOMESKY (Michael Kent): After running OK first up he has since placed in Monday's trial sessions to keep him ticking over. His Alister Clark win suggests he likes the Valley.

QUEENSLAND

BR 7-4 LILLEELAVEE (Kelso Wood): Her trainer has been going very well and given the two trials at Doomben, that run might continue. She can handle any conditions and might be one to consider.

BR 8-2 HAIZUM (Tony Sears): After trialling well at home at Toowoomba, he ran well at Eagle Farm. He then has had another trial there to be ready for this run over the same sprint trip.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

AR 7-3 CONSERVATORIUM (Gary Kennewell): Ran a cracker at the Goodwood only 3L away in a race which looks strong now. He won a Gawler trial on 22 August and must be one the chances.
