BLACKBOOKERS & TRIALS

Our Blackbook service provides punters with a great way to keep tabs on horses to follow. Remember you can always click on a horse from the Racing And Sports Database to blackbook it or go straight to our Blackbook section and maintain your stable runners there.

We’ve identified a few here from the last week which we think can make us some money in the near future.

Blackbookers

Super Cool

Hard not to be impressed with the return of the Australian Cup winner Super Cool. He was no match for his superstar stablemate but he is expected to be kept away from her when possible this Spring and his return suggested he too is on track for top level success. Races like the Underwood and Turnbull are well within his range with the Caulfield Cup also on the radar with 55kgs not putting him out of contention there.

Lidari

Successfully upstaged his more fancied stablemates last weekend when surging late to notch up a most impressive victory first up. Talked up highly pre-race by Peter Moody this former European galloper proved his own worst enemy in his first preparation in Australia however he does appear to have made good progression off a break and was able to settle and relax far better in the run this time around. Although proven successful over a mile and a half in France, Moody said he may keep him between a mile and mile and a quarter this time in and could target a race like the Toorak.

Chateau Lafaite - Monday 2 September @ Rosehill

While her big sister Royal Descent is set to make her presence felt in the big Spring features, this filly also looks to be heading in the right direction. Was a huge fan of her debut win at Canterbury, she was trapped wide early and got a long way back rounding the turn for home. Pulled the widest runner in the straight she took a while to balance up but when she did she worked home impressively and won effortlessly on the line. Put away by Waller with some later Spring riches in her sights, she does appear to have come back in good order given her effortless trial win and is definitely one to follow this preparation.

Eligible Blackbookers Racing This Weekend

Some of the recent runners that have been Blackbooked by us are engaged this weekend and we think should be included in your punting thoughts.

MR2 - 2 Cauthen

The kiwi 3yo got the job done for us in the Mitchell McKenzie at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago and we see no reason to drop off just yet. An extra furlong only looks to be of benefit and the bigger stretches of Flemington to help him as well. For him to be a player in the Guineas, a race like this needs to be taken care of.

MR8 - 14 Lucky Penny

She didn’t have the best of luck in the race won by Elite Elle when the winner just strolled along in front, gave a big kick on the bend and the field all were left in her wake. This mare only started twice in the Autumn for a win at Caulfield and then a top second in the RA Lee at Morphettville. At the time the form may not have looked overly strong but the winner Linton did something remarkable in the Stradbroke at his next run. Thinking this time she gets closer to the speed earlier.

SR2 - 7 Photon Willie

Talk about problem children. He is a big dope but there is a motor inside. Twice this preparation he’s threatened to throw a race away but he’s managed to still win. Being by High Chaparral, you would think the mile is no drama and again he finds a race where he’ll be midfield and having to run over some leaders who won’t be pressured so much. He can still do the business and we’ll keep him Blackbooked one more time.

SR3 - 8 Sessions (off his trial)

As our Front Page Special suggests, he’s flying off the trials and ready to graduate to this company now. Taken along quietly by Peter Snowden when he showed some immaturity before, this is his moment to show us what he’s made of. No better time than to be asked serious questions by the likes of Hay List and several new season 3yos. We think he might deliver.
