G2 Shannon Stks - 1500m Rosehill

Racing And Sports have identified the Shannon Stks as the race of the weekend where the settling positions hold a big sway in the way the race may end up.

Our maps are interactive and so use the technology available to create your own speed map if you have a differing view. Much like racing everywhere, it is all a matter of opinion and that is what makes the sport great.

Click the link back to the race in our Form Guides and you can create your own Speed Maps located on the left hand side of the page.

Explanation:

They should run along in this lead up to the Epsom with some solid on pacers, led by the Waterhouse crew. Much like his older full brother Desert War used to race, Our Desert Warrior is fitted up now and can roll forward with Ashokan following him over. Monton and High Esteem have the pace to be right there too. Looks three distinct groups of horses here with four on the speed, five near the middle and three out the back but still expect ODW to build momentum.

A firm track generally plays to leaders but with pace on, we saw what happened at the end of the last Rosehill card on Golden Rose day. This day last year it was OK to run on but giving away a big start was not helpful. Our thinking here is covered up then peeling out is a good pattern and so both the Greg Eurell horses are well placed to do just that. They will be midfield and ready to pounce. Slight leaning to Your Honour who did a fine job in the Theo Marks at his first attempt in group racing. This certainly is a competitive G2 race but not the same level of horses as contested the one here a fortnight back. He just keeps lifting his rating as well. Likely needs to win this to make the Epsom and can do it.
