The Trial Files

The Trial Files team look to find you a few for Saturday

Racing And Sports is pleased to introduce for punters the services from The Trial Files. Their team specialise in viewing Barrier Trials from Victoria, NSW and WA and analyse them for future race performances. They don’t just provide recommended selections but also provide a full trial review service which aims to educate people on trial information and stimulate wagering on those horses in the process.

Please find below some of their best for the weekend based on recent trials around the country.

1. Randwick Race 4 – 4 Tarangower

TRIAL COMMENTS

TARANGOWER - Was stuck a little wide and then pulled its way to the front. Was quite keen but really spread the small field out. Reasonably hard held throughout here and simply too good for them. Very good piece of work.

SUMMARY

10 of the 13 acceptances here have finished in the top four at their latest start including 5 last start winners, albeit Grand Allowance has now been scratched. This is a good race. Expecting THE BARONET to work forward from the outside barrier. He could follow the likes of TARANGOWER across who is bound to be handy in the run. RAGTIME COWBOY JOE and MAGNICA have drawn inside and will likely kick up. Pace should be reasonable for this 1800m affair.

Rarely we have blackbookers over 1800m but that is the case here. Loved the way TARANGOWER went in a recent hit out last Friday and he looks set to continue his good form. Barrier 9 shouldn’t pose too many problems and Sam Clipperton, who has ridden him at his last 3 (including trial), can find a position in the run. The son of Northern Meteor drops back to the 1800m after winning well in similar grade at 2000m back on July 12. He should be rock hard fit and ready again to run a big race. A major player.

Another that trialled well is the Waller trained RUNHARDASUN who also comes into this on the back of a strong win in July. Barrier 5 looks ideal for this 5YO and expecting a forward performance. He is rising in grade but no surprise to see him be competitive here.

The Gai Waterhouse trained THE BARONET has a tremendous career record, having only missed a place on one occasion; and that was over 1200m. His run first up over 1400m was full of merit and he should be improved again stepping up to the 1800m today. SAINTLY LAD is a blackbooker from way back. He has always shown that he had talent but unfortunately he has been a bit of a handful. This prep he has come on leaps and bounds and finally strung a few good performances together. An interesting race and a good betting affair. Happy to side with our blackbooker here in TARANGOWER and the $4.20 available appeals. Expecting him to figure in the finish. Exotics with those mentioned above could be an option also.

2. Flemington Race 1 – 8 Splash Of Moet

TRIAL COMMENTS

Clear pick of its trial heat was SPLASH OF MOET. She cruised along very comfortably on speed in the early stages and was travelling the best of all runners in the early part of the straight. She was cuddled to the line and could have clearly put this field away if the jockey had desired. Interesting runner is COULDN'T AGREEMORE looked very nice in a trial at Morphettville recently. He jumped well and raced on speed before running away under a good hold in the straight. Ran nice time comparable to Happy Trails et al in the previous trial.

SUMMARY

A fantastic way to open racing at headquarters tomorrow with a very competitive 1000m handicap. Three runners engaged come off key trials/jump outs: COULDN'T AGREEMORE (showed nice speed and wasn’t knocked around in running good time at Morphettville), NICHOLLS COURT (balanced up early in a recent Wodonga trial and won under a good hold) and SPLASH OF MOET (looked absolutely outstanding in a Caulfield jump out against subsequent winner, SINO EAGLE).

The engagement of FAB FEVOLA ensures a genuine tempo, something not overly common down the straight, and we expect SPLASH OF MOET to settle a few lengths off the speed and prove very strong over the last 200M. She won first up off a similar jump out last preparation and has a super record fresh (4-3-0-1). COULDN'T AGREEMORE looks the like danger over from SA on the back of that strong trial and he too races very well first up. Keen to back SPLASH OF MOET at around the $4 and could have something the win, triple the place.

3. Belmont Race 4 – 8 Stagnite

TRIAL COMMENTS

STAGNITE – another lovely trial from this very talented 3yo. Sat outside the leader but came very wide in the straight into what looked to be better ground (even though it was a good track). Went to the line under a tight hold from Pike. Spell seems to have done him nicely.

SUMMARY

A small but talented field face the starter over the 1300m with the rail at the 6m position. LENIENCE and RUSTY PEACHES should both roll along to ensure this is run at a reasonable pace. LENIENCE was a stunning win last time out going quickly in front but kicking strongly to win by almost 3L on the line. That was in 3yo company though and he steps up to open grade here, the form behind him from that start is also questionable. An extra 100m may also be a challenge for him. A leading contender but he will need to be at his very best. RUSTY PEACHES is a bold front runner who has been in good form this preparation apart from his second up run. Will only carry 52kg for Faithfull and with a 4.5kg advantage over the other leader, this could be telling at the end.

STAGNITE got a long way out of his ground first up but still ran on strongly with the big weight. Has had 4 weeks between runs and trialled again in that break, which was yet again impressive. Was a bit wayward when running on first up and has the winkers applied here which should assist in keeping his mind on the job. From a much better barrier he should be able to settle midfield on the fence and with an ounce of luck will be very hard to beat. STAGNITE is very talented and should return to his winning ways here. The two leaders LENIENCE and RUSTY PEACHES will prove hard to catch.

4. Newcastle Race 4 (7) Stratical & (8) Sussex Street

TRIAL COMMENTS

STRATICAL - Thrown in to a G2 on debut which suggests this filly has always been highly thought of and been impressive at home. Was disappointing on debut but clearly going well this time in. Lovely trial here. Jumped well, raced wide throughout and travelled sweetly. Under a hold throughout and ran time, worth following. SUSSEX STREET was slowly away but gathered speed. No clear room in behind a wall of horses until they peeled off the inside fence in the straight and she came through and won in nice fashion.

SUMMARY

A set weights maiden for three year olds over 900m. There should be plenty of speed on as you would expect. Two blackbookers engaged and both look to have reasonable chances in what is a moderate affair. We should get an immediate form reference in regard to the last run of STRATICAL with the horse that ran second in that race (CARAVEL) running in Race 1 here. STRATICAL was slightly disappointing last start at Gosford when only managing fourth, despite starting a $3 favourite. Her trials suggested she was better than that. Feel she would be better suited to leading and may get that opportunity here over the 900m. Ms Jess Taylor takes the ride and this filly can give plenty of cheek.

Our other blackbooker here is SUSSEX STREET who comes into this on the back of a good hit out at Warwick Farm on July 25. She has had the one career start in which she wasn’t disgraced on a heavy track over this track and distance back in March. Feel she may be a better horse on top of the ground and she gets an opportunity to show her ability today. The Street Sense filly is clearly going well and must be considered a major player here. The one to beat.

So throughout the week check out The Trial Files for Trial Reviews, Blackbook features and Recommended selections. Racing And Sports will also utilise some of their information on our site.
