Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Randwick Race 4 - 4 Sense And Reason

It’s a must to stick with proven wet trackers on this program. This mare has won three times on seriously affected tracks down to a Soft 7 including her excellent first-up win at Rosehill at the start of this campaign.

In her two subsequent starts on soft tracks she has given up far too much start on tracks where the on pace pattern played against her.

Excellent effort over 1400m at this course two weeks ago when she was one of the few horses to make ground from the back half while the winner Transfers was getting all the favours in front. Meeting that mare 2kg better under more testing conditions should see her turn the tables.

Randwick Race 5 - 7 Berry Delicious

Could easily be rated Sydney’s unluckiest filly after a run of four successive placings since resuming when little has gone her way in any of those events.

This surely will be her chance as she is very well placed over 1400m with the advantage of Winona Costin’s 2kg claim that gives her a weight advantage over several rivals from her recent starts.

The bonus is her excellent credentials on wet tracks and her liking for Randwick where she has raced twice for two unlucky placings.

Randwick Race 6 - 8 Mount Nebo

Honest sprinter with a great record on wet tracks comes back to Sydney at just the right time after racing well through the Queensland carnival where he started off with back to back wins before two solid efforts in black type company.

Well placed here on that form as he has missed a place just once in seven starts at Randwick and boasts five wins on genuine soft and heavy tracks. He’ll relish the very heavy going carrying the limit weight.

BLACKBOOK UPDATE from 13 June (Ipswich, Flemington & Rosehill)

Ulmann - Nobody missed his luckless effort. Should have won.

Heavy - Showed talent with big finish after losing his position at vital stage.

Mr Utopia - Set huge task under big weight from wide barrier. Big trial for Winter Championship Final.

Keep Cool - Ready to step up in distance.

Two Blue - Tried to steal it under big weight. Certain to be fitter.

ELIGIBLE BLACKBOOK RUNNERS for 20 June

Randwick - Medcaut (R2), Berry Delicious (R5), Bonete (R7) and Keep Cool (R8)

Moonee Valley - Word Of Mouth (R7) and Rock ‘N’ Gold (R9)
