Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
Hawkesbury Race 1 - 6 Great Glen
Progressive import has been set up for this suitable 2100m event with two lead-up runs in unsuitable races in Victoria over 1400m and 1600m where he has worked to the line like a typical stayer.
His win and two placings from eight starts in the UK were all recorded at distances from 2000m to 2400m. Hard to beat if he strikes that form against this moderate field.
Hawkesbury Race 5 - 8 Lanciato
Former Kiwi has done well since coming to Sydney under smart management by his trainer Mark Newnham.
Recorded a deserved win over 1400m at Rosehill in February before a let-up and showed he was in the right form for this suitable event when he breezed home for a strong second in a Warwick Farm trial on April 7.
Has purposely avoided the heavy tracks of recent weeks waiting for a suitable firmer surface.
Hawkesbury Race 6 - 8 Daysee Doom
Quality mare has had no luck in any of her three starts through the autumn including a game fourth in the G1 Coolmore Classic and her last start second in the G2 Emancipation Stakes when nailed on the line by Zanbagh after racing wide.
She’s been given a five weeks freshen to counter the drop back in distance from 1600m to 1300m and is favoured by these ideal set weight conditions.
