Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
Randwick Race 2 - 9 On The Fiddle
The Canberra stable that sets the standard in these Highway races is showing plenty of confidence in the potential of this lightly-raced 3YO by pitching him at this Class 3 event at only his fourth start after two country wins from his first three outings.
Should have won first-up when fourth on the Acton track at Canberra before a strong win over 1300m at Goulburn. His obvious scope for improvement should see him go on with it here.
Very fit gelding is deep into his campaign but continues to race well under big weights and will be suited over this trip on the limit after a game second to his stablemate Liapari over 1600m at Warwick Farm two weeks ago.
Drops 4kg to meet Liapari 1.5kg better over the extra distance and worth noting that the last time he raced at Randwick in May he won over 1600m beating Supply And Demand carrying 57.5kg, form that now looks very strong.
Randwick Race 8 - 8 King Of Leon
Making strong progress since resuming and I doubt he has reached his limit just yet.
Ran through the line powerfully in his latest win over 1100m at Warwick Farm under 58kg and should have little trouble stepping up to 1200m in this higher class with a 2kg drop in weight. Valuable new ride for Hugh Bowman.
