Adam Campton is confident racegoers will see the real Deepour when the gelding attempts to give the young Gold Coast trainer his first Stakes win in the Group 3 Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Deepour will be on trial for a repeat of last year's trip away for the Listed Ramornie Handicap at Grafton next month and the Group 2 Missile Stakes at Rosehill in August.
Adam Campton has only been training for two years but has a strong stable on the Gold Coast and is regarded as one of the State's rising young stars in the training ranks.
Deepour is coming off a first-up seventh to Steady Ready in the Listed Lightning Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 8.
"He's going as good as last year and I want to get him out to 1400 metres eventually, possibly in Sydney towards the end of his campaign," Campton said.
"Long range, I'd like to aim him for the Stradbroke next year but he needs to get his rating up.
"His run in the Lightning was super as it was only 1000 metres and the 1200 metres will suit him a lot better.
"He lost a lot of confidence last campaign after he hurt his hamstrings but he's doing a lot better now and doing great in the stable."
It's well documented Campton once trained Tony Gollan's star sprinter Antino and he's hoping Deepour can be his next big star.
Deepour failed in three starts during the Queensland Summer Carnival but Campton believes the six-year-old is more of a winter horse than in the summer.
Deepour failed in the Listed Swiss Ace Plate, Group 3 Goerge Moore and Listed Falvelon during the summer.
"I wasn't disappointed with his two runs in the Swiss Ace and George Moore and he'd had enough for the Falvelon," Campton said.
"He got smashed in the Swiss Ace coming to the turn and lost all momentum then he got held and went to the line hard held in the George Moore."
Deepour started his career with Richard and Will Freedman before Campton purchased him online and has now won six of his 21 starts.
The son of Exosphere has strong second-up record with two wins from five starts which has given Campton added confidence he can figure in the finish.
