The beaten jockey comments from two Group One races at Caulfield.
Group 1 - Schweppes Thousand Guineas
(3yo F SW - 1600m)
Race Result:
1st: Another Prophet (C Maher/E Brown) - $31
2nd: Aeliana (C Waller/J McDonald) - $3.20F
3rd: Too Daren Lizzie (G Waterhouse & A Bott/J McNeil) - $26
Winning Time: 1:39.23
Margins: Neck x 1¼L
Beaten Jockey Comments:
Jye McNeil (Too Darn Lizzie): "She towed me to her usual position and did well to run third."
James McDonald (Aeliana): "Good run. Race panned out perfectly for us but, unfortunately, like she did at Flemington she hit that flat spot and then here she never got through it. She let herself down that way. Had she balanced up better earlier she would have won."
Ben Melham (Geegees Mistruth): "She relaxed well. I thought she was going to run well then just got all disunited on the corner and wasn't in it after that."
Jamie Kah (Zeitung): "Good run. She probably just had a big prep and is probably looking for the paddock now."
Michael Dee (Double Market): "She had a wide run but she stuck on gamely."
Craig Williams (Dominetta): "Got in a lovely position. Was the plan to be three-wide with cover and come into it. Came under pressure around the bend and I think Caulfield was her undoing. After they sprinted past her I had plenty of horse left and she's got a really bright future.
Mark Zahra (Matisse): "Ran well. I was just hoping the favourite could take us a bit further in the race. Probably more of a seven furlong horse but did a good job to run fourth."
Jordan Childs (Supercilious): "She had a good run but I just don't think she runs out a mile."
Damian Lane (Lovelycut): "She ran honest. She travelled great and presented to really go on with it but didn't quite see out the mile today."
Luke Currie (Benagil): "She just needed room earlier."
Declan Bates (Let's Fly): "Didn't quite relax enough through the first part of the race and then got a bit tired late."
Daniel Stackhouse (Stage 'N' Screen): "We were there positively and traveled nicely enough on the corner. Just didn't have enough late in the piece. Will come back a nice filly in the autumn."
Group 1 - Sportsbet Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes
(3yo+ Handicap - 1400m)
Race Result:
1st: Kimochi (G Portelli/C Williams) - $26
2nd: Another Wil (C Maher/J Kah) - $2.70 fav
3rd: Steparty (P Preusker/D Moor) - $31
Winning Time: 1:23.56 Last 600m: N/A
Margins: Long Neck x 1-½ lengths
Beaten Jockey Comments:
Mark Zahra (Southport Tycoon): "Battled on okay."
Ethan Brown (Tuvalu): Unavailable for comment.
Jamie Kah (Another Wil): "So close. Can't ask for much more, just the drying track probably pulled him up a little bit the last hundred but he'll win one soon."
Luke Nolen (Gentleman Roy): "Just didn't find the right run today, I looked after him late when he was beat."
Daniel Stackhouse (Climbing Star): "She began nice, I thought we settled in a good position, following Another Wil, took us into the race, just thought when she got out she should've produced a lot more than she gave, so see how she pulls up."
Damian Lane (Jimmysstar): "Disastrous, held up for clear running on straightening and went to the line under canter."
Celine Gaudray (Buffalo River): "A genuine tempo didn't really suit his way of racing and just a big gap between runs has seen him out."
Michael Dee (Charm Stone): "Very, very messy race, never got a lot of peace out there, got knocked around a lot, definitely should've finished closer but just needed a run to be on the outside of horses with a little bit of peace."
Carleen Hefel (Roll On High): "Very plain today, she never really travelled at all."
Patrick Moloney (Run Harry Run): "Wasn't ideal leading but we landed there, had a cruisy time in front, I thought he was very basic towards the line."
Daniel Moor (Steparty): "He was very brave, obviously well prepared off a nice mark, he had a good tow into the race, that swooping sort of bunch you need to be and he finished off strong."
Declan Bates (War Machine): "Just didn't pan out for him, he began very well but the negative from that he just ended up close to the speed, no cover and got a bit tired."
Robbie Dolan (Bittercreek): "Really good through the line, he's going to be a nice horse in time."
