Cockram Form Holds Up In Let's Elope

3 minute read

The Cockram Stakes has once again proved to be the best form line when Pinker Pinker took out the Group 2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400 metres) at Flemington, narrowly ahead of Mid Summer Music and Parables.

Albeit in different order the consistent trio crossed the line in the first three when competing in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes at Caufield three weeks ago and managed to do it once again.

Ridden by Glen Boss, Pinker Pinker was able to bustle her way through the pack to hit the lead 250 metres from home and run on strongly in the straight.

Zelsnitz, Willow Creek and Brazilian Pulse did a majority of the work early with Mid Summer Music having to go back from the wide barrier.

Pinker Pinker had to fight off Keep The Peace at top of the straight and showed outstanding acceleration to find herself in front almost too early, but managed to hang on to win her third race at Flemington from just the four starts.

“It was a terrific effort,” said trainer Greg Eurell.

“She was stepping up to the 1400 metres and second-up but the only worrying part was taking forever for the post to get to her.”

“Glen (Boss) was a little bit cheeky really he waited and waited and rode her brilliantly as we all saw.”

“She never got knocked around in the run and ideally we would like to step up to the mile next week at Moonee Valley.”

The four-year old Reset Mare has now taken her record to five wins from 13 starts and as outlined by trainer Greg Eurell will head to the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam (1600m) at Moonee Valley next week.

“She is very genuine and very honest,” said jockey Glen Boss.

“Obviously the writing was on the wall first-up when she ran well with not great luck.”

“Having looked at her runs I got it all wrong as she usually takes 100 metres to hit and then she comes to her top so I got out early and made sure I had clean air but she took me by surprise and sprinted very quick.”

“I was left in front a long way from home and full credit to her for hanging on.”

Mid Summer Music would have lost no admirers with a great run from a wide barrier to continue her outstanding record whilst Parables, yet to miss a place from 11 starts looked to have every possible chance and unlike last start had no excuses.
