Time For A Change Of Fortune

3 minute read

It’s about time the tide turned for veteran galloper Yabbra, according to his trainer Leo Clapham.

Yabbra will start as one of the favourites in the BPC Haulage Handicap (1405m) at Ballina on Sunday and is well overdue for a win.

The eight-year-old has finished second at four of his past five starts and last won in July last year at Ballina.

Clapham feels the time is right for Yabbra to win again.

“He is just starting to come good again after losing a bit of form,” he said.

“The tracks are a bit firmer for him now which is more suitable.

“He has been in a couple of close photo finish results and drops back down to 54 kilograms.”

Yabbra has carried between four and five kilograms more weight in lower grade races and the return to open company has been offset by the lighter weight.

The winner of seven races has recently finished second three times at Lismore and will again have the service of Marlon Dolendo.

Last time out, Yabbra carried 5.5kg more than he will on Sunday.

“He will take a lot of beating with the lighter weight,” Clapham said.

Last start Gold Coast winner Faultless Dancer again looks well placed with 54.5kg after the claim for Melissa Cox.

The topweight Ibalance and Originate are the other chances.
