Sky's The Limit For Lord

3 minute read

Talented speedster Lord Of The Sky has romped home in the Monash Stakes, winning by a space and confirming the big promise he has shown to this point.

Lord Of The Sky jumped straight to the front and was never headed, his new stablemate Mr Make Believe riding shotgun with Le Bonsir settling third.

The race was over a long way from home with Lord Of The Sky travelling far too strongly through the turn and the chasing pack left in his wake when he kicked on for home.

Le Bonsir managed to finish best of those chasing with Riziz grabbing third ahead of Mr Make Believe.

"On the corner I thought he will either find or get run over. I doubt him all the time," said trainer Robbie Laing who is having a hot run of late.

"58kgs on a slow 7 or heavy 8 at 1100m was a concern, he failed at his first start at 1100m and we have sort of avoided it ever since, but he's gone on and won well.

"He's a very good horse."

Laing will now target the Bletchingly before taking stock, his plan to pick one or two targets each campaign and take his time with the son of Danerich.

"We've got to have crack at the Bletchingly," Laing said.

"Two weeks time, back here at Caulfield, hopefully it's a case of deja vu."

The speedy three-year-old colt Lord Of The Sky scored an impressive first-up win under weight-for-age conditions for his first win beyond 1000m and also in slow going for the first time. He quickly drove though from his inside barrier (1) to take the lead and was then well-rated by Dwayne Dunn before sprinting clear coming to the 200m. He then drew away to win easily by four and a half lengths to record his fifth win in eight starts. Le Bonsir travelled nicely in fourth place on the rails, eased wide on turning for home and got to third, under riding at the 200m. He then kept fighting on for second, without threatening the winner at any stage. Riziz raced in third place, one off the rails most of the way to the turn. He moved up at the 300m and then kept battling on for third, beaten five and a quarter lengths. Mr Make Believe raced behind the leader to the home turn and held on fairly well in the straight for (6.3 lengths) fourth while African Pulse was a handy fifth, with cover to the turn and battled on reasonably well in the run home for a first-up (7.6 lengths) fifth. *ANZ
