Diamond Drille scored a surprise win over an elite group of fillies and mares in this Group One event. She raced in sixth place, one off the rails before fanning deep on straightening. She challenged strongly at the 200m and proved too good in the closing stages for score a narrow but impressive win. Gypsy Diamond again missed the start and was last in the nine-horse field in the early stages. She then improved to seventh on the rails and James McDonald kept her to the inside at the turn, saving good ground and she took a narrow lead half-way down the straight. She then fought gamely for a very good second. Red Tracer travelled well in fourth place one off the rails. She challenged at the 200m and looked the winner but then kept battling on from that point for a solid third, after having every chance. Streama was eighth, one off the rails, switched deep nearing the home turn and kept running on nicely for fourth, beaten a length and a half. Viadana was fifth on the rails to the turn and fought on well to hold that position to the post while the favourite Catkins was third to the turn and seemed to have every chance before finishing (3.7 lengths) sixth. Solicit led the field to the turn but dropped out to finish last, racing well below her best. *ANZ
