He was under pressure on turning for home, responded to challenge at the 100m, hit the front at the 50m and fought back to score in a photo, putting up an excellent effort after a difficult trip. Fell Swoop settled in seventh place, between runners, switched across heels at the 200m and then finished strongly to just miss, finishing a close second. Heatherly showed her customary pace and drove through to lead from her good barrier (2). She got a break rounding the home turn and looked the winner on straightening and only weakened in the closing stages for good third after setting a fast pace. Pittsburgh Flyer was tenth, between runners, was urged to improve nearing the home turn and kept running on well over the final stages for a promising first-up fourth, only beaten a length. Reldas was near last in the 17-horse field to the home turn, switched deep at the 300m and made good ground for (1.5 lengths) fifth while The Quarterback came from last at the home turn and caught the eye, making late ground for (2 lengths) sixth.
