A wide draw has hjad little impact on star filly Ghisoni’s position as an odds on favourite for the G3 Glenlogan Park Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.
Ghisoni has drawn gate 10 for her Brisbane debut but corporate bookmakers are taking little chances with the Godolphin filly, her price fluctuating between $1.85 and $1.75 since the field was declared on Wednesday.
Ghisoni will be having her first start since her luckless fourth against the colts in the G2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) at Randwick when she was locked up between runners without clear running for the last 200m.The John O’Shea trained-filly finished a hard held fourth in a barrier trial over 807m at Warwick Farm on May 16 and has been sent to Brisbane in the hope that she can register a G1 win before the end of the season.
Whether her G1 mission is the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 11 or the Tatts Tiara on June 25 will be resolved after Saturday’s race. The decision confronting the stable is whether to run Ghisoni in the $1.5 million Stradbroke (1400m) or against her own sex in the G2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) on June 11.
Should the second option be taken, the daughter of Lonhro would then proceed to the G1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m), also for her own sex, at Eagle Farm."This was always going to be the starting point and all being well she will run again in two weeks at Eagle Farm," said O'Shea.
"A lot will depend on how she runs this weekend. The Stradbroke is there, but the Tatt's Tiara is for fillies and mares only and it might be the more suitable race."”Ghisoni is among a classy list of starters for the Godolphin stable at Doomben on Saturday including the classy 2YO Souchez in the G2 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1350m).
Souchez, already a G2 winner, will be looking to add to the stable's tally of 23 two-year-old wins this season after finishing off strongly for third over 1200m at Doomben two weeks ago."The best part of his race last time was the last bit, he's trained on well since that run and should get the chance to settle nice and close from a good gate," O’Shea said.
O’Shea will also start the three-year-olds Unbreakable and Eschiele in the G3 Grand Prix Stakes, Malice in the G3 Lord Mayor’s Cup and Mogador in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes."The Lord Mayor's Cup should really suit Malice well after a couple of solid runs at his last two starts in similar strength races" O'Shea said.
Stable jockley James McDonald is booked for Ghisoni, Souchez, Unbreakable, Malice and Mogador with Damian Browne on Eschiele.McDonald will also be riding Delectation (Doomben Ten Thousand) and Index Linked (Premier’s Cup) for Chris Waller.
