Elvstroem, Haradasun Sibling To Debut At Flemington

Well-related colt Coroebus has some high-achieving family members to live up to when he debuts at Flemington on Saturday.

A two year-old trained by Danny O’Brien, Coroebus is by Choisir out of the top-producing mare Circles Of Gold, making him a half-brother to Group 1 stars Elvstroem and Haradasun.

Placed third in a recent jumpout at Werribee, Coroebus makes his debut in the Eugene Gorman Handicap over 1100 metres and O’Brien expects the colt to improve as a three-year-old over longer distances.

His pedigree would suggest the same, with the feats of Elvstroem and Haradasun coming at longer journeys while Circles Of Gold herself was an Australian Oaks winner and Caulfield Cup runner-up, both at 2400 metres.

Elvstroem was a five-time Group 1 winner, highlighted by victories in the 2004 Caulfield Cup, 2003 Victoria Derby and 2005 Dubai Duty Free.

Haradasun also won internationally at the elite level in the 2008 Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot, his other Group 1 wins coming in the Doncaster Handicap and George Ryder Stakes in 2007.

Circles Of Gold also produced Hveger, Group 1-placed in the Australasian Oaks and the dam of international Group 1 winner Highland Reel and recent Epsom Derby placegetter Idaho.
