2017 PREMIER’S CUP - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Premier’s Cup is a Listed race run under Quality Handicap conditions for stayers at Rosehill conducted by the Australian Turf Club.

The Premier’s Cup is run over 1900m. It was first run in 1947 and was won by Courier.

Activation carried 60.5 in 2006 which is the highest weight since the metric system came in.

Gai Waterhouse has won the race four times.

Both Magic Hurricane and Glencadam Gold won the Metropolitan after taking the Premier’s Cup while Railings added the Metrop and the Caulfield Cup too following the Rosehill win.

Hydrogen won the race in 1952 and would go on to win the next two Cox Plates.

After winning the 2016 race, Sense Of Occasion won the Villiers, placed in the Doncaster and Queen Elizabeth and won the Doomben Cup to end the season.

The 2007 race was not held due to the Equine Influenza break out.

The 2017 Premier’s Cup will be run for prizemoney of $125,000.

The 2016 Premier’s Cup was won by Sense Of Occasion from Singing and Magic Hurricane.
