Team Hawkes-trained colt Showtime scored a very smart win here, his second win in nine starts and his first at Group level. He settled well outside the leader (The Mission), got the better of that runner and dashed clear on turning for home. He then fought back gamely for a good win, running the 1600m out well. Salsamor, who has having only his fourth race start and his second run this preparation travelled back in sixth place, went deep nearing the home turn and ran on really well for a most promising second. The Mick Price-trained Holy Snow, also having only his fourth start, was back in ninth place at the 800m and improved (under riding) approaching the home turn. He went to fifth on straightening and kept plugging on well for third, looking to have good staying potential while Mighty Boss was handy all the way and held on nicely for fourth.
