Singapore racing best bets, race analysis looking at the full Singapore card Saturday, 2nd April with selections & information on all the contenders.
RACE 1
STAR EMPIRE – Comes up into a division one company race and drops 2kg from the previous start. Was super tough to the line and the win deserves plenty of respect.
NORTHERN SUN – Recent division one winner who gains 3kg for previous win. Should find a spot midfield and hopefully be chiming in late in the race.
CLARTON TREASURE – On the two week back up after a really nice run, his best to date since returning to class 5. Yet to win track and distance but has two minor placings to his name so he could certainly be entertained for a place.
CIRCUIT STAR – Trial winner on the 24th of March winning in 61.16. A horse who is most certainly looking for more ground down the track, but the recent trial caught the eye.
RACE 2
GOLDEN MONKEY – Former Aussie who before the move to Singapore had some nice runs in behind what are now group level gallopers. Looks to be the one to beat without knowing how he will handle a Singapore race day.
RAHOTU – Another who has impressed greatly at the trials. Again, we don't know how it will handle it's Singapore debut, but he seems to have good ability.
SHANG CHI – Has the race day experience on its side and was running home well in behind a smart one in Blazing Kid. Drop back in distance is a slight concern as he should appreciate more ground, but it wouldn't shock to see him in the finish.
MELODY FAIR – Another coming out of that race in behind Blazing Kid. Respecting that form line as strong and like both horses who finished in behind the winner.
RACE 3
WECANDO – Not sure what to make of last start, copped collision at the beginning of the race but didn't really make an impression after that. Excuses? Hoping to see him lead back onto the poly track and be hard to chase down.
SACRED JUDGEMENT – Despite being on the turf track, finishing 3.8 lengths off Lucky Jinsha the start before you downgrade is a form line to follow. Zero poly track form to date, however, you cannot let that form go unnoticed.
UNCONQUERED – The poly track form is good for this horse, and he comes to this race out of a recent trial in behind one who could be a smart galloper in the making (Golden Monkey). Keeping safe.
BE YOU – Tactics last start were to ride horse off the pace and settle back in the field. Found itself too far back turning for home to threaten the eventual winners but did run on well. Keep safe.
RACE 4
WEDNESDAY – No horse in class 5 is more due for a win than this son of Super One. Getting down to a low enough mark where it is bound to happen at any point, and this looks an easy enough field to do it.
ATLANTEAN – Another horse knocking on the door to win another after a string of on and off performances. Can mix runs but last start he finally put two nice runs together. Major threat.
ALLEGRO – Has had a couple months off and a nice tick over trial earlier this week to prepare for this weekend's run. Must go in the numbers due to his 50% top three strike rate track and distance.
GOOD CATCH – Mixes his race day performances but throws in a good one now and then which is good enough to win a race like this which falls away.
RACE 5
CHEVAL BLANC – Narrowly denied last start by Mesmerizing and it would have been a tough watch for those invested. Pinched the gap up the inside late to kick back and miss by a nose. With any more luck, he gets the job done this weekend off a four week freshen.
QUEEN LAGETHA – Ride from I.Saifudin almost won her the race in her first race under the new name Queen Lagertha. Slackened the tempo dramatically and had most of them chasing late to be beaten 0.3 lengths. Big watch this week.
KING LOUIS – Knocking on the door for a win, just hasn't been able to find any luck in running his last couple. A win isn't far off.
IMA – On speed victory down in class 5 proved that if he gets into the gate cleanly and doesn't play up, he has plenty of ability to offer. Hopefully we see a repeat again with less weight, going up in grade and distance.
RACE 6
CROWN DANCING – Narrowly defeated by Diamond Mine last start after finding the lead. A repeat performance wins this but could give Benny Woodworth his first win back in Singapore.
FLYING YELLOW – Another who came out of the race in behind Amore Amore who go no favors with how the race transpired. Could figure in the placings with a good run in transit.
HIDDEN PROMISE – Rider reported that his whip broke in the run, and this didn't help the chances of his horse. Happy to forgive as the two starts before were good from him.
BLITZ POWER – Since her multiple wins, she hasn't really caught the eye at the races. Her trial on Tuesday suggested she is well though, not tested but sticking with them throughout the 1000m gallop. Keeping her safe.
RACE 7
FROM THE NAVY – He should take plenty of natural improvement from his third placing the other week where he was first up for the 2022 campaign.
GOLD PRIZE – Been off the scene quite a while so there are plenty of question marks with him. Has been trialing well behind some nice horses in preparation for his first run since September 2020.
PROOF PERFECT – No favors last time out due to the wide gate, going down 2.8 length to Crystal Warrior who got given the lead on a platter from the inside gate. Watch for a positive run again this start.
VGOR – Serious money came for him last start, running into a strong second behind Brutus. Will be watching the market once again in the final minutes before jump time, not far off a win.
RACE 8
SPLIT SECOND – Drops back from the 2000m to the mile. Rarely comes across to the poly, but happy to respect his last run behind Tony's Love in his first run back in class 5.
GOLD KINGDOM – His track and distance record for a class 5 horse is not bad at all (15:4-2-0-3). Hasn't won for nearly a year but that victory came in a very similar race to this.
HELUSHKA – 25% strike rate over the mile on poly. Looking into previous starts, this son of Toronado hasn't had much luck in finding a good spot in running and this has led to him racing keenly. Last start didn't give anything in the field much of a hope with Amore Amore kicking away and having every runner off the bit chasing, happy to forgive.
SUN PALACE – Last run was a circus, everything that could have gone wrong, did. Start before was 0.4 lengths off Tony's Love, that form is strong enough to make an impression here.
RACE 9
BEN WADE – Due to poor gate, struggled to not only find cover but was very keen throughout the run. Ran third getting beaten 2.8 lengths. 1100m on the poly is where he does his best work, should be in the finish.
LIM'S PRIDE – Historically, this son of Casino Prince has been better over 1200-1400m, however, last run was solid in behind Northern Sun. Could be up to the sharper trip being deep into the preparation and at peak fitness.
HOLY ELEANOR – Unfortunately she has struggled to break the duck for Team Cheval since kicking off its Singapore career. Has run some strong seconds behind horses who have progressed to bigger and better things. Always a place chance going off its record.
SUPER SIX – The old boy still has a way of finding himself in the minors more than you think. Would shock seeing him find a nice spot in running from the inside gate and be there about in the finish.
RACE 10
CELAVI – Trial suggests she is well after the most recent failure over 1100m. Stable have been patient and carefully selected good races for her and this looks one of those.
SACRED GIFT – Boasts a nice 1000m record with three wins and a second from seven attempts. Expecting another positive performance after the big win last start. Will most certainly get a hot tempo in the run to sit off and charge home late.
DARC BOUNTY – Another horse who not only caught the eye last start but is a four-time winner over the distance. Seems to be in a good patch of form now and could surprise as a danger here.
ENTERTAINER – Seven from ten over the 1100m but has yet to break through over 1000m, funny how it works like that. Always needs to be kept safe because his best is good enough.
RACE 11
LUCKY JINSHA – Proved last start he is a freak doing it a both ends on the turf against a solid class 3 field. Gets back to the preferred surface and looks a massive hope against one of his toughest fields yet.
KING ARTHUR – Finally meets Lucky Jinsha on the 1200m poly to settle it once and for all. Unfortunately, we were denied this contest weeks ago due to Lucky Jinsha going lame, but they are both primed and ready for a big run, bring it on.
HADEER – Was only a length of Jinsha last start and he is looking well at this stage in the preparation. The distance this weekend is perfect, only knock on him is the surface, yet to win on the poly.
PALETAS – Was well off the leader Lucky Jinsha last start and by the winning post got within 1.8 lengths. Big run considering it was held up at a crucial stage turning for home.
RACE 12
FIRST CHOICE – Eye catching run last start in behind Happy Moment to go down 0.8 lengths first up. Looks one of the major players here.
YES ONE BALL – Speed influence here who missed a start last week as fourth emergency. If he can find himself a soft enough lead, as we've seen before, it would not shock to see him have a kick in the locker late.
MISTER DYNAMO – The ride from Manoel Nunes was the main reason last start this horse won, an incredible steer to say the least. Only concern is whether the time from the race is a concern, wasn't fast by any means. Up to class 4 and drops 4kg's for this start, watch the market late.
HOTSHOTS SLAM – Does its best work with featherweights. Last start ran second with 50kg. This time around, he carries 55.5kg and there is a slight concerned that could be too much weight. Nevertheless, we must respect the last start performance.
